Brandon JacobsCut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's weekday roundup of the NFL news with fantasy football impact.

Brandon Jacobs only has 150 yards rushing in his last four games and has only scored three touchdowns. He's not going to get a chance to go out with a powerful Week 17 performance as Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News says Jacobs will undergo knee surgery next week, ending his season.

"Tom Coughlin announced Wednesday that Jacobs' disappointing season is officially over and he will undergo arthroscopic surgery next week. Coughlin did not specifically say what the damage was or whether it happened during his six-carry, one-yard performance against the Panthers on Sunday. He also indicated the problem wasn't discovered until Jacobs was examined yesterday."

This is a dismal ending to a season that Jacobs would probably like to forget. He won't be able to continue his streak of consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons that will now stop at two. He'll also look back and wonder if his constant knee issues this season were the cause of his down numbers in 2009, or if the problem lies elsewhere.

o. Matt Moore, Panthers - Carolina has already been forced to use their second-string quarterback, and now Moore has a bum shoulder. He was limited in practice on Thursday, but is still expected to play. He likely won't be of much fantasy help, however.

o. Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bills - Fitzpatrick has been ruled out of Sunday's game against Atlanta with an ankle injury. Brian Brohm will start instead.

o. Kyle Boller, Rams - It's looking more and more that Boller will be out this Sunday and Keith Null will start at quarterback fr the Rams. If this news is meaningful to you, you probably aren't playing for the fantasy championship in your league this weekend.

o. Matt Ryan, Falcons - Ryan practiced on Thursday, although in a limited fashion. He's a pretty good bet to start on Sunday against the Bills.

One of the toughest situations to master as a fantasy football GM is starting the right personnel to get the job done. There isn't a worse feeling than seeing someone flounder on your starting lineup while a bench players blows up.

Take for instance last week. In one league I made the mistake of starting Percy Harvin and leaving Greg Jennings on the bench. I won the game thanks to Fred Davis' heroics on Monday night, but it was much closer than it needed to be.

Here in our FanHouse league, I advanced to the league championship but still had Justin Forsett in my starting lineup scoring 6.9 points while Jonathan Stewart's 24.3 points were wasted.

The NFC playoff picture may have cleared up a little over the weekend, but the teams at the top of the standings still have reason to fight.

When Dallas handed New Orleans its first loss of the season, the Minnesota Vikings were in prime position to gain a game and make this race for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs interesting. But the Vikings lost to Carolina and still sit two games back in the hunt for the No. 1 seed, with two games to play. All it will take is one more win by the Saints to shore up the No. 1 seed and that means all the starters are playing in Week 16, according to quotes from Sean Payton in the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

The Atlanta Falcons have been without their quarterback and starting running back for the past several weeks. Thus, fantasy football owners of Matt Ryan and Michael Turner were left scrambling to fill their starting lineups down the stretch. If you were lucky enough to survive to this week without Ryan or Turner and still have either waiting on your bench, the payoff may be coming this weekend.

Both Turner and Ryan practiced with the Falcons Thursday. Reports have Ryan looking sharp and likely ready to step back into the lineup. Turner, on the other hand, was limited but still claims he'll play if there are no changes to how he physically feels.

Cut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's weekday roundup of the NFL news with fantasy football impact.

Fantasy football owners of Larry Fitzgerald are not having a good week. First of all, Fitz only put up two catches for 22 yards against a sub-par (at best) San Francisco pass defense Monday night. He left the game early, surely taking the playoff hopes of some owners with him. Now, with the enticing Detroit Lions matchup awaiting the Cardinals, Fitzgerald's status is up in the air due to his tweaked knee.

Owners can take solace in the fact that he is "only" suffering from a bone bruise and sprained MCL. Fitzgerald is practicing, but it's on a limited basis. Further clouding matters is how easily the Cardinals should be able to put the Lions away early. If they play as well as they can (and they have underperformed at times this season), Fitzgerald could be watching the majority of the game from the sidelines. The Cardinals still have to sew up the NFC West, sure, but they have a two game lead with three games to play. As long as they take care of business in Detroit this weekend, the playoffs will be a foregone conclusion. Keeping Fitzgerald healthy will be much more a priority than getting him stats.

o. Bruce Gradkowski, Raiders - Gradkowski was forced from the game on Sunday after he partially tore his MCL. This is an unfortunate event for both Gradkowski and Raiders fans that now have to suffer through JaMarcus Russell at the helm again.

o. Vince Young, Titans - Young suffered a hamstring strain during the second quarter of Sunday's game -- he did not return to the game. The injury has been labeled as mild, but his status for next week will be uncertain until he tests the hamstring this week in practice. If he's unable to play, expect Kerry Collins to continue to fill in.

Matt RyanI'll be the first to admit that I rode the back of Matt Ryan to sneak into the playoffs in our fantasy football league here at FanHouse -- a league that is chronicled each week by R.J. White. That said, maybe this post is selfishly geared towards my fantasy needs. But, isn't that what they call creative license?

Ryan missed most of Week 12 and all of Week 13 with turf toe and hasn't been able to practice much since the injury occurred. D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said that Ryan tested his toe in a closed session on Wednesday.

According to Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune, Saints coach Sean Payton grew frustrated with Reggie Bush during their Week 13 games for lack of effort. Join the club Mr. Payton of every fantasy football owner who took a chance on Bush and is being jilted now with injuries or this nonsense about his intensity levels.
Reggie Bush played in his first game since missing the previous two with a bone bruise in his right knee. Sean Payton told Fox broadcasters he wanted to limit Bush to 20 snaps in the game, but Payton clearly grew frustrated with Bush near the end of the first half. First, Bush took a screen pass and nonchalantly stepped out of bounds short of the first down after a nine-yard gain.

Quinton GantherQuinton Ganther and Rock Cartwright combined on Sunday to rush for a little over four yards per carry. Ganther carried the ball eight times for 46 yards and Cartwright 13 times for 39 yards -- neither reaching the end zone as Jason Campbell threw three touchdown passes and almost orchestrated an upset of the undefeated New Orleans Saints.

As for the Redskins running game, Jason Reid of the Washington Post says that until Clinton Portis returns from injury, the Redskins will us a running back by committee approach.
Cartwright, Ganther and Marcus Mason will continue to share the load against the Oakland Raiders at Oakland, Coach Jim Zorn said.

You've likely already read my earlier post about Jamal Lewis and the concussion that ended his season. The fantasy repercussions are being discussed just about everywhere in the fantasy football world.
But don't expect too much from Jennings, as he has quite a few things going against him. The biggest pitfall is that he plays for the dreadful Browns, a team with only three rushing touchdowns all season. If that's not enough to scare you away from Jennings -- remember that he's still going to share carries with Harrison and will probably lose a few touches in the backfield to Joshua Cribbs as well when they run the Wildcat.

Since I'm in a good mood, however, I will share a silver lining with you. Right around fantasy playoffs time, the Browns have two teams on their schedule that are extremely easy to run against. In Week 15 they face Kansas City and the following week they go up against Oakland.

Jamal LewisThe 2009 season hasn't been terribly kind to Jamal Lewis. He's only rushed for 100 or more yards in a game once and he hasn't scored a touchdown all year. Things were so off for the former first-round draft pick that he had already decided to retire at the end of the season. But, Lewis suffered a concussion on Sunday against the Bengals and after seeing a specialist on Wednesday the Browns decided to place Lewis on the injured reserve list, ending his professional football career.
Jamal Lewis suffered a serious concussion Sunday in Cincinnati and visited a brain trauma specialist on Wednesday, said a source with knowledge of the situation.

Lewis, who previously announced this would be his last NFL season, has played his last down of football. He will retire as the 21st leading NFL rusher with 10,607 yards in 131 career games.

The Cincinnati Bengals could very well dress four healthy running backs this Sunday when the team plays Detroit. Cedric Benson will return from injury to join Larry Johnson, Bernard Scott and Brian Leonard in what looks to be a crowded backfield. Joe Kay of the Associated Press says that Benson will be the starter.
