Since we never want to disappoint, let's check it out. Here is one man's opinion on how the first round will shake out next year in standard scoring formats. This is using what we've seen thus far in 2009, plus what I expect to see the rest of the way. The first pick isn't really a secret, if you've been reading me the past two weeks. <br /><br /><strong>1. <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Chris+Johnson/">Chris Johnson</a>, RB, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/tennessee-titans">Titans</a></strong> - As I said, <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/11/09/fantasy-football-reality-check-chris-johnson-will-supplant-mjd/" target="_blank">I haven't been secretive about this</a>. He's gonna end up with 2,500 yards from scrimmage and close to 20 touchdowns this year. And he's only getting better.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">2. <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Adrian+Peterson/">Adrian Peterson</a>, RB, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/minnesota-vikings">Vikings</a></span> - He actually trails MJD by just over one point per week right now, but I'm pushing forward with All Day based upon two factors. First of all, Peterson is going to have a monster second half as the Vikings cruise to the NFC North title. Secondly, MJD isn't going to have as easy a schedule next season. <br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">3. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/maurice-jones-drew/7809">Maurice Jones-Drew</a>, RB, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/jacksonville-jaguars">Jaguars</a></span> - Don't mistake the above as knocking MJD, though. He's proven himself a fantasy monster this season now that he's freed from time-share duties. For the first time in a while, there will be a three-headed debate for the top overall pick in fantasy drafts. Really, it's tough to go wrong with any one of the three and having the third pick might be the most desirable draft position. Let the first two guys make your decision for you and get the better second rounder. <br /><br /> <iframe height="210" frameborder="0" align="right" width="205" class="poll" src="http://webcenter.polls.aol.com/modular.jsp?template=1386&amp;view=180534&amp;pollId=180826&amp;channel=aol_us_sports"></iframe> <span style="font-weight: bold;">4. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/ray-rice/8832">Ray Rice</a>, RB, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/baltimore-ravens">Ravens</a></span> - Raise your hand if you thought Rice would be the fourth best running back in fantasy this year. Hell, he's still only owned in 90 percent of the fleaflicker leagues. I have to assume these are leagues where people quit paying attention, otherwise that's insanity. Expect Rice to continue piling up points and it will probably lead to Willis McGahee being cut from the competition next Spring -- further clearing the path for red zone touchdowns. <br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">5. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/steven-jackson/6783">Steven Jackson</a>, RB, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/st-louis-rams">Rams</a></span> - He's currently 11th in running back points, but I'm expecting a few things here. <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/11/16/fantasy-football-reality-check-full-speed-ahead-for-the-cardina/" target="_blank">As I pointed out in reality check</a> (fourth bullet-point), SJax has tons in his favor moving forward. The Rams are improving, the run schedule is relatively soft and he always plays his best football in December. I'm expecting a gargantuan finish which will catapult him back into the top five in time for 2010 drafts. <br /><br style="font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-weight: bold;">6. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/deangelo-williams/7776">DeAngelo Williams</a>, RB, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/carolina-panthers">Panthers</a></span> - Proving last year was no fluke and that there wasn't much need to fear the production Jonathan Stewart provides. Williams is their bell cow and as the running game goes, so go the Panthers. This is great news for Williams in terms of fantasy and he's a very safe pick in the middle of the first. <br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">7. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/frank-gore/7241">Frank Gore</a>, RB, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/san-francisco-49ers">49ers</a> </span>- He's as steady as they come -- only failing to reach more than 16.5 points one time when healthy (Week 7, his first coming off the injury). Getting that kind of consistency at the seven pick would be huge, and remember that the passing game will continue to take pressure off him as Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree continue to blossom. <br /><br style="font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-weight: bold;">8. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/michael-turner/6913">Michael Turner</a>, RB, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/atlanta-falcons">Falcons</a></span> - The injury doesn't scare me. It's not the type of thing that will linger into next season. If anything, it may make him undervalued heading into next season. The one thing that would scare me is the inconsistency, but he's well worth this slot due to knowing you'll get several huge outings. <br /><br style="font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-weight: bold;">9. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/randy-moss/4262">Randy Moss</a>, WR, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/new-england-patriots">Patriots</a></span> - Recently took over the top of the receiving points and the Pats don't have much resistance from here on out. He may be relatively shut down by Darrelle Revis (again) this coming week, but the stats will pile up thereafter. <br /><br style="font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-weight: bold;">10. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/larry-fitzgerald/6762">Larry Fitzgerald</a>, WR, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/arizona-cardinals">Cardinals</a></span> - Receivers as a group are generally inconsistent. It's part of playing a position where you rely on someone else to throw the ball to you. Fitzgerald, however, is as consistent as they come. His <span style="font-style: italic;">worst</span> game this season was when he caught six passes for 66 yards. <br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">11. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/reggie-wayne/5477">Reggie Wayne</a>, WR, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/indianapolis-colts">Colts</a></span> - Wayne wasn't a part of the vaunted "Big Four" receivers heading into drafts (Moss, Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson and Calvin Johnson). All he's done is outscore them all except Moss -- and he only trails him by 0.2. Wayne's had at least 12 points in seven of his nine games and more than 20 three times.<br /><br /> <iframe height="185" frameborder="0" align="right" width="205" src="http://webcenter.polls.aol.com/modular.jsp?template=1386&amp;view=180535&amp;pollId=180827&amp;channel=aol_us_sports" class="poll"></iframe> <span style="font-weight: bold;">12. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/andre-johnson/6339">Andre Johnson</a>, WR, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/houston-texans">Texans</a></span> - He's currently sixth among wideouts in fantasy points, but he's battled through a chest injury and will mix in enough big games down the stretch -- as the Texans fight to make the playoffs -- to earn this spot. <br /><br />One thing you'll surely flock to point out is the lack of quarterbacks. There's a reason for that. You only have to start one quarterback and the difference between the first and second tier of passers is just a couple points per week. On the flip side, there is a big drop off after the elite running backs to unreliable ones or ones in time-share situations. At wideout, there are five clear-cut elite options and a big drop thereafter. <br /><br /><font size="+1" color="#5c5858">Second-Rounders</font><br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">(in alphabetical order, just for kicks)</span><br /><br /><a style="font-weight: bold;" class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/joseph-addai/7779">Joseph Addai</a> - He's working his way into first round discussion, but things are clouded by his reliance on touchdowns and <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/donald-brown/9291">Donald Brown</a>'s development. <br /><br /><a style="font-weight: bold;" class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/cedric-benson/7180">Cedric Benson</a> - Would be a first-rounder, if not for concerns about his workload. If that is curtailed, I'd consider him above one of the wideouts in the first. <br /><br /><a style="font-weight: bold;" class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/tom-brady/5228">Tom Brady</a> - If I had to draft now, he'd be my top quarterback option -- but there are four more right on his tail. <br /><br /><a style="font-weight: bold;" class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/drew-brees/5479">Drew Brees</a> - Weird to say, but he's actually been relatively disappointing this year in fantasy (how dare he and his team put winning above stats?). Still worth a very high pick in '10, though. <br /><br /><a style="font-weight: bold;" class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/ronnie-brown/7178">Ronnie Brown</a> - He's barely more valuable than his teammate, but they run enough that both are studs. <br /><br /><a style="font-weight: bold;" class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/matt-forte/8821">Matt Forte</a> - Since he's been a colossal bust in 2009, you can get him at great value next year. The <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/chicago-bears">Bears</a> won't enter 2010 without doing significant work to the offensive line. <br /><br style="font-weight: bold;" /><a style="font-weight: bold;" class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/vincent-jackson/7237">Vincent Jackson</a> - Probably would have been in the first round had I done this last week. He's still a definite member of the Fab 5 at wideout. <br /><br /><a style="font-weight: bold;" class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/thomas-jones/5036">Thomas Jones</a> - He'd easily be a first-rounder if not for age (32 next year) and <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/shonn-greene/9329">Shonn Greene</a>'s presence. <br /><br /><a style="font-weight: bold;" class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/peyton-manning/4256">Peyton Manning</a> - C'mon, like he should ever fall out of the second. <br /><br /><a style="font-weight: bold;" class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/rashard-mendenhall/8800">Rashard Mendenhall</a> - Think <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/willie-parker/7073">Willie Parker</a> in his prime without losing goal line carries. <br /><br /><a style="font-weight: bold;" class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/aaron-rodgers/7200">Aaron Rodgers</a> - He's the top scoring player in standard scoring fantasy leagues right now, but lack of position scarcity (14 of the top 18 entering Week 10 were quarterbacks) knocks him to the second round. <br /><br /><a style="font-weight: bold;" class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/matt-schaub/6849">Matt Schaub</a> - The only question before this season was his health. Check. <br /><br />After that, I still see a few names lingering and they are mostly running backs. There's the aforementioned big drop off at wide receiver after the clear-cut top five and, again, there's a huge amoeba of nearly equally valued quarterbacks. You could probably get one in the fourth or even fifth round. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/knowshon-moreno/9276">Knowshon Moreno</a>, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/beanie-wells/9295">Beanie Wells</a>, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/steve-slaton/8866">Steve Slaton</a>, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/ryan-grant/7635">Ryan Grant</a>, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/kevin-smith/8841">Kevin Smith</a> and <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/brandon-jacobs/7286">Brandon Jacobs</a> look to be great value here. Others like <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/ricky-williams/4653">Ricky Williams</a>, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/pierre-thomas/8561">Pierre Thomas</a> or <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/jonathan-stewart/8790">Jonathan Stewart</a> could end up being decent value picks in the fourth if you want a quarterback like Philip Rivers or Ben Roethlisberger instead of waiting on Jay Cutler or Donovan McNabb. <br /><br />But you never know. We still have plenty of 2009 from which to draw conclusions. <br /><br />Still, it's too much fun to not discuss, even nine months in advance.<br /><br style="font-style: italic;" /><span style="font-style: italic;">How do you think things will shake out? One thing always leads to another -- an injury here, a news report there, and the next thing you know everyone is scrambling to get up to speed. That's why the trick is to stay one step ahead of the curve. Much like actual stocks, the values of individual players waver on a daily basis. <br /><br />As we prepare to close out those last few drafts left or attempt to gauge where our team stands, it's important to track our assets. Or should I say get a better feel for where their value stands in the current market. Here's a quick look through eyes, ears, experiences and observations at some early risers, guys on the decline and others who have just held steady. This is your quick-hitter post-draft edition, so pay close attention. <hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" />

<hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" /><br /><font size="+1" color="#5c5858">The Risers</font> <br /> <br /> <strong><a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/mike-bell/8008" class="injectedLink">Mike Bell</a></strong><span style="font-weight: bold;">, Saints</span> -- Right now everyone is "<span style="font-style: italic;">goo-goo-ga-ga</span>" over Mike Bell. Yes, that Mike Bell ... you got me. I guess everyone loves the notion of Bell potentially feasting on the <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/detroit-lions/" class="injectedLink">Lions</a> in Week 1 with <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/pierre-thomas/8561" class="injectedLink">Pierre Thomas</a> on the mend. That's reasonable I guess, but I'm still cautious. Don't shoot the messenger -- I'm just saying that Bell is a commodity right now, tomorrow could be another story. <br /> <br /> <strong><a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/james-davis/9459" class="injectedLink">James Davis</a></strong><span style="font-weight: bold;">, Browns</span> -- Are we talking about this year's <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/steve-slaton/8866" class="injectedLink">Steve Slaton</a>? Let's not get <em>that </em>excited just yet. However, Davis showed the goods in preseason and you'd be hard-pressed to find many who would admit they're confident <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/jamal-lewis/5034" class="injectedLink">Jamal Lewis</a> will last very long as the starter this season. You simply can't hold back a good thing like Davis for too long. If you're lucky he's still on your waiver wire, so the suggestion here is to stash him. <br /> <br /> <strong><a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Chris+Henry/">Chris Henry</a></strong><span style="font-weight: bold;">, Bengals</span> -- He's reportedly focused more than ever on football. And we know the potential and skills have always been there. He's put together a very productive preseason and quietly building some buzz. You have to piece his production together from when he's not been suspended and then you can get excited over the many possibilities. I saw him snagged in the later rounds in all my drafts, but if he's on your wire -- no time like now. <br /> <br /><a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl" target="_blank"><img hspace="4" vspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/09/fleaflicker_186x124.jpg" id="vimage_2" alt="Fleaflicker" /></a><strong><a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/knowshon-moreno/9276" class="injectedLink">Knowshon Moreno</a>, Broncos</strong> -- He's going to get the lion's share in Denver and he's the best thing they have going at the moment. A few weeks ago, he was fading down most draft boards, but now he's an asset and many owners are banking on him as a solid FLEX option. <br /> <br /> <strong><a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/ray-rice/8832" class="injectedLink">Ray Rice</a>, Ravens</strong> -- Why state the obvious? The hype machine is bubbling over for Rice, who will finally get his chance to be the feature back in Baltimore. It's ridiculous to consider the range he's being drafted. I've heard 2nd round in some drafts, but mostly in the 4th to 5th. Clearly the biggest riser this preseason. <br /> <br /> <strong><a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/jeremy-shockey/5900" class="injectedLink">Jeremy Shockey</a></strong><span style="font-weight: bold;">, Saints</span> -- With <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/billy-miller/4868" class="injectedLink">Billy Miller</a> going down for the season, Shockey has gone from hardly being drafted to some owners talking themselves into Shockey like it's 2005 all over again. <br /> <br /><font size="+1" color="#5c5858">The Hold-Steadies</font> <br /> <br /> <strong><a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/darren-mcfadden/8781" class="injectedLink">Darren McFadden</a>, Raiders</strong> -- We still really aren't 100% sure what McFadden's role will be, but that hasn't changed his status much. He's viewed as an upside guy who could be a "phenom" or a "bust." He's hovering in most drafts around the 5th or 6th round. Not much hype, but not much hate. <br /> <br /> <strong><a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/ryan-grant/7635" class="injectedLink">Ryan Grant</a>, Packers</strong> -- This is about as Plain Jane as it gets. Grant was all the buzz heading into last season, but this preseason all we've really heard is "yup, he's healthy." There hasn't been a rush to proclaim Grant ready to be a fantasy stud, but also there aren't many whispers of dud. Steady as she goes. <br /> <br /> <strong><a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/kevin-smith/8841" class="injectedLink">Kevin Smith</a>, Lions</strong> -- Despite the mixed feelings in most fantasy circles, I still feel like Smith is destined for a monster season. I watched him go as expected in the 3rd and 4th round of every mock and real draft I participated in this year. At this point, I still can't tell if he's overhyped or undervalued. <br /> <br /> <strong><a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/deangelo-williams/7776" class="injectedLink">DeAngelo Williams</a>, Panthers</strong> -- We love him, we hate him. Back and forth, back and forth. The common assumption was that Williams would see a more equal timeshare with stud-in-the-making <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/jonathan-stewart/8790" class="injectedLink">Jonathan Stewart</a>, but Stewart can't stay healthy. Still though, the confidence in Williams repeating his fantasy season for the ages <em>just </em>isn't there, as he's going in the later part of the first round. <br /> <br /><font size="+1" color="#5c5858">Fading Fast</font> <br /> <strong><br /><img hspace="4" vspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="Steven Jackson" id="vimage_2" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/09/steven-jackson-200tt.jpg" /><a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/joseph-addai/7779" class="injectedLink">Joseph Addai</a>, Colts</strong> -- With <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/donald-brown/9291" class="injectedLink">Donald Brown</a> looming and Addai's injury history this one makes a lot of sense. I watched Addai basically plummet in most drafts. I'm not sure he deserved such a fall from grace in fantasy terms, but that's the harsh reality of the game. It's a "what have you done for me lately" kinda world. <br /> <strong><br /><a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Derrick+Ward/">Derrick Ward</a>, Bucs</strong> -- Up and Down. Ward was all the buzz earlier this summer, but since then we've seen him drop heavy into a possible three-headed timeshare. And now <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Cadillac+Williams/">Cadillac Williams</a> is back and primed to take over the "defined" starter role. Ouch. I thought the Bucs invested a good chunk in making Ward the featured guy ... little did we all know. <br /> <br /> <strong><a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Josh+Morgan/" style="font-weight: bold;">Josh Morgan</a><span style="font-weight: bold;">, 49ers</span> -- </strong>Yup, I'm a proud owner in hopes. However, the realist in me just doesn't see this sleeper working out. He was a virtual ghost in preseason and hasn't quite slammed the door on Arnaz Battle. Maybe <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Michael+Crabtree/">Michael Crabtree</a> eventually signs, maybe not. However, I still feel like the looks and love is still headed the way of old man Isaac Bruce in this offense. Lord knows I hope I can eat that last paragraph in a month. <br /> <strong><br /> <strong><a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Steven+Jackson/">Steven Jackson</a>, Rams</strong> -- </strong>Save your hatred and relax for a second. Yes, his name looks out of place on this list. However, I have to go off what I saw in most of my drafts. I watched him slip to the late-second round and even 3rd round in several drafts. The guy should be a consensus first-rounder every single season. How he slips like that is beyond me. Are people really believing in Samkon Gado?<strong><br /> <br /> <strong><a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Roy+Williams/" style="font-weight: bold;">Roy Williams</a><span style="font-weight: bold;">, Cowboys</span> -- </strong></strong>Slipping and sliding down the draft board. It's not like we were really geeked on the guy out of the gates based on his sketchy history. However, the whisper of an injury has certainly made many jump ship on this guy. It'll be a long climb back to prominence in the fantasy world, but he can prove us all wrong. <br /> <strong><strong><br /> <strong><a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Marion+Barber/">Marion Barber</a>, Cowboys</strong> -- </strong></strong>My prediction is that <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Felix+Jones/">Felix Jones</a> will pass Barber this season in the same fashion that Barber bumped Julius Jones from the picture a few short seasons ago. You just can't ignore the guy with breakaway potential.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/09/11/the-pulse-of-the-fantasy-stock-market/">The Pulse of the Fantasy Stock Market</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com">Fantasy Football Fanhouse</a> on Fri, 11 Sep 2009 17:00:00 EST . If anything the choice to start <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/matthew-stafford/9265" class="injectedLink">Matthew Stafford</a> over Culpepper was based solely on the fact that <span class="injectedLink">Lions</span> management realized they weren't going to be any better or worse. It also comes down to a depressed football town in a depressed economy and yes, putting people in the seats on Sunday. Culpepper was a causality even if he probably was good for at least two more wins. <br /><br />However, do we really care that much about who the Lions' starting QB was/is gonna be in the <a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl" target="_blank">fantasy football</a> world? Of course not, all we care about is how this will help or hurt the investment many of us made in <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/calvin-johnson/8256" class="injectedLink">Calvin Johnson</a>. From the glass is half-empty perspective, we see this as doom. A starting rookie QB with loads of inexperience trying to be the butter to our No. 1 WR's bread. Then again, from the glass is half-full perspective do we really care who throws the ball to Megatron? He's an animal. <br /><br />Let's weigh in on the pros and cons before we panic. <hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" />
<div align="center"><strong><a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl">Play FREE Fantasy Football at Fleaflicker.com</a></strong></div>
<hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" /><br />Yes, it's not always an ideal situation any time a rookie QB is asked to carry the burden of a team. Is Stafford going to be given free reign or will he be on a short leash? The conservative guess is that the answer is yes and no. Look, the Lions aren't going to play the yo-yo game with Stafford where he has a couple bad plays or games and gets benched. It's not happening that way. But he certainly won't have the green light to just grip it and rip it. <br /><br />Stafford will be your typical "game manager" type rookie QB. This doesn't sound so encouraging right now for Calvin Johnson owners, though consider what <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/roddy-white/7203">Roddy White</a> was able to do last season with a rookie QB in <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/matt-ryan/8780">Matt Ryan</a>. I know, it's not fair to compare Ryan and Stafford. But you really have to think, what more could Culpepper possibly produce statistically this season? <br /><br />It's not like Culpepper and Johnson exactly hit it off last year. Those dreams and visions of Culpepper-to-Moss are what they are, delusions. As much as we heard how solid Culpepper looked in camp, he wasn't gonna suddenly revert to the old days and make magic with Megatron. He still was facing the same uphill battle that Stafford will face on a team that sorely lacks talent all around the field. Besides, Johnson made his money more with <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/dan-orlovsky/7321">Dan Orlovsky</a> last season than anyone else. <br /><br /><a target="_blank" href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl"><img hspace="4" vspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="Fleaflicker" id="vimage_2" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/09/fleaflicker_186x124.jpg" /></a>The encouraging news for Johnson owners is that Stafford has looked to throw the ball downfield this preseason. He's not going to be afraid to test his strengths. And we'd be fools to think he's not going to turn to Megatron as his ace. Not many rookie QBs get to play catch with somebody as gifted as Johnson. This hardly means there won't be those moments where you worry on Sunday, but overall I think Calvin will be just fine. <br /><br />Let's face it, he ripped it apart last season with a complete disaster happening around him. You weren't concerned about Megatron when you thought Culpepper was going to start, so no need to worry now. He's a freak of nature and it's never really mattered who the QB was gonna be. Johnson will still be a stud, bank on that.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/09/09/theres-no-reason-to-worry-about-calvin-johnson/">There's No Reason to Worry About Calvin Johnson's Fantasy Value</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com">Fantasy Football Fanhouse</a> on Wed, 09 Sep 2009 00:30:00 EST . Cooley's picks look good, though he doesn't exactly swing for the fences, preferring safer bets like <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Chad+Ochocinco/">Chad Ochocinco</a> and <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Anthony+Gonzalez/">Anthony Gonzalez</a> to deeper sleepers. Chris makes an interesting selection in <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Brent+Celek/">Brent Celek</a> however, after he made waves late last season with one particularly notable postseason game where he lassoed in 10 balls and two touchdowns. <br /><br />If Cooley's sleepers don't pique your interest, he also shares a half naked picture of his wife for whatever reason. <br /> <hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" />

The <span style="font-style: italic;">Cleveland Plain Dealer</span> reports that Cleveland head coach <a href="http://www.cleveland.com/browns/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/sports/125205334450670.xml&amp;coll=2&amp;thispage=2">Eric Mangini attempted to slow the </a><a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/James+Davis/">James Davis</a> hype train, explaining that he is impressed, but that the competition still exists and he is not a sure thing to start. The consensus outside the inner circle seems that Davis is the resoundingly better back, but all three guys (<a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Jamal+Lewis/">Jamal Lewis</a>, <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/James+Harrison/">James Harrison</a>, and James Davis) should see touches in varying situations, at least in the near term.<br /><br />o. An Arizona ABC affiliate <span style="font-style: italic;">ABC15</span> scoured the internet for some <a href="http://www.abc15.com/content/sports/stories/story/You-Decide-Best-fantasy-football-team-names-of/7xQzHw9DSEKO0KGiBp9JGA.cspx">good 2009 team names</a>.<br /><br />o. Looking for a low hanging running back who will get a good number of touches? The <span style="font-style: italic;">Cincinnati Enquirer</span> called Thursday night's Bengals win the "<a href="http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090903/SPT02/309030077/1066/Benson+loud+and+clear">Cedric Benson Show</a>." Benson appears to have the job locked down and will provide a good source of carries if you prefer to spend your first few rounds shoring up the receiving crew and quarterback spot.<br /><br />o. Fantasy Football lynch pin, Brandon Funston provided the <span style="font-style: italic;">New York Times</span> with <a href="http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/09/04/fantasy-football-draft-top-3-tips-from-brandon-funston/">three crucial tips for draft day</a>. I like that <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Matt+Schaub/">Matt Schaub</a> got the nod as a good quarterback value, because I used this same strategy last night and my starting quarterback will be a rotating Schaub/Hasselbeck mix. <br /><br />o. Just as it seemed perpetual waiver wire desperado <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Samkon+Gado/">Samkon Gado</a> had begun climbing his way back to relevance as the St. Louis backup, <span style="font-style: italic;">St. Louis Today</span> reports <a href="http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/rams/story/0EA6FDC68D6FD7A8862576270012E7AC?OpenDocument">Gado suffered a rib injury in Thursday night's preseason game</a>.<br /><br />o. One of the remaining burning questions remains that of the Bronco-like backfield situation in New England. At this point five guys will be competing for carries, but the <span style="font-style: italic;">Bleacher Report</span> suggests that <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Benjarvus+Green-Ellis/">Benjarvus Green-Ellis</a>, aka the Law Firm (ha), stated his case with 29 carries for 125 yards on Thursday in a win against the Giants. At this point <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Sammy+Morris/">Sammy Morris</a>, <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Fred+Taylor/">Fred Taylor</a>, and <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Kevin+Faulk/">Kevin Faulk</a> still look to have larger roles than Green-Ellis, but don't put anything past New England.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/09/04/fantasy-football-cut-n-go-chris-cooleys-sleeper-picks/">Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: Chris Cooley's Sleeper Picks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com">Fantasy Football Fanhouse</a> on Fri, 04 Sep 2009 18:00:00 EST . How about it's the week we all have at least one fantasy draft? Does that sound better? It's that dreaded "why do they play these games again" week. Most of us are more focused on who we're going to draft and who we're going to be rooting for in Week 1 than the final preseason game. Still though, it's always time to pay attention. Slight, but steady attention.<br /><br />You already know the saga that is <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/brandon-marshall/7868" class="injectedLink">Brandon Marshall</a>, but what else happened on this Thursday? <hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" />

<hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" /><strong><br />Other Camp Notes With Fantasy Spin:</strong><br />o. We got a good look at <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/michael-vick/5448" class="injectedLink">Michael Vick</a>, who was coming fresh off the word from <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Roger+Goodell/">Roger Goodell</a> that he could in fact compete in meaningful football <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/09/03/michael-vick-can-play-week-3/" target="_blank">in Week 3</a>. OK, let's not all rush to the waiver wire now. Vick holds a little tiny ounce of value if you really stop and think about it, but that's about it. Email me when he starts dropping over 10 fantasy points per week. Thanks, that's enough of Vick. <br /><br />o. The Detroit QB situaton is hardly clearly defined after tonight's game. However, one could probably guess that it will be <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/daunte-culpepper/4659" class="injectedLink">Daunte Culpepper</a> in Week 1. Although, <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/matthew-stafford/9265" class="injectedLink">Matthew Stafford</a> didn't look all too bad or too good in preseason. Worth noting from Thursday night is that <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/calvin-johnson/8256" class="injectedLink">Calvin Johnson</a> had two grabs for 56 yards. I'm excited, I drafted him at No. 10 in two drafts. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl" target="_blank"><img hspace="4" vspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/09/fleaflicker_186x124.jpg" id="vimage_2" alt="" /></a>o. He certainly lit it up, but then again it is the 4th game of preseason. Sorry to burst your bubble. <br /><br />o. <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp09/news/story?id=4442061" target="_blank">The word on the street is that Chris Henry is a changed man</a>. Should we finally expect big things from him? It's certainly a possibility -- mark him as a sleeper. When the time is right, make your move. <br /><br />o. Despite slipping a little on many a draft radar, <a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/3634/49ers-morgan-cueing-up-breakout-season" target="_blank">it would still appear that Josh Morgan is primed for that "breakout" season</a>. <br /><br />o. <a href="http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/09/02/carson-palmer-will-be-ready-for-week-one/" target="_blank">Carson Palmer is ready to go for Week 1</a>. Let's not all jump to draft Palmer, but if you do need a good backup QB he'd be a good place to start. He's got starter potential, but until we see it, why believe it?<br /><br />o. Preseason football is coming close to an end and <a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl" target="_blank">fantasy football drafts</a> are popping up like crazy. There's good reason though, since Marshall is one of the most asked about players in <a class="injectedLink" href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl">fantasy football</a> due to his fluctuating draft value. In our recent <a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl/showAssignedDraftOrder.do?leagueId=69086" target="_blank">FanHouse league draft</a>, Marshall fell to the fifth round and the chat feedback ranged from "nice pick" to "lol, good luck with that one."<br /><br />Now the Marshall-to-<span class="injectedLink">Jets</span> angle is circulating again, two weeks <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/08/19/fantasy-football-cut-n-go-brandon-marshall-still-needs-a-new-ho/" target="_blank">after the first report</a> that New York was interested.<br /> <hr color="#eeeeee" align="center" width="90%" size="2" />
<div align="center"><strong>There's Still Time: <a target="_blank" href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl">Play FREE Fantasy Football at Fleaflicker</a><br /><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/category/draft-advice/">More FanHouse Advice</a> | <a href="http://www.rotoworld.com/referredby/refer.asp?id=AOL&amp;url=http://www.rotoworld.com/premium/draftguide/football/main_page.aspx" target="_blank">Get Extra Edge With Rotoworld's Premium Draft Kit</a></strong></div>
<hr color="#eeeeee" align="center" width="90%" size="2" /><br /><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4441274&amp;campaign=rss&amp;source=NFLHeadlines" target="_blank">According to ESPN's Adam Schefter</a>, the <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/denver-broncos/">Broncos</a> are asking for talented Jets linebacker <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/david-harris/8301">David Harris</a> in any trade scenario involving Marshall. They'd certainly want a high draft pick, as well.<br /><br />If that's the case, I don't see the Jets budging. While Marshall would give them a needed top-flight receiver to pair with <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/jerricho-cotchery/6867">Jerricho Cotchery</a>, "Hitman" Harris is considered a rising star in the Jets' improving defense, regardless of his disappointing 2008. When healthy, he's a tackling monster and great pick for Individual Defensive Player (IDP) fantasy leagues. Recall his excellent rookie season where he racked up 90 solo tackles and five sacks. Big upside here.<br /><br />Marshall will stick with the Broncos for now and his Average Draft Position will continue to slide. In <a href="http://www.mockdraftcentral.com/index.jsp" target="_blank">Mock Draft Central</a>'s most recent report, Marshall's ADP had fallen to 64.20. That's a round later than his teammate, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/eddie-royal/8819">Eddie Royal</a>, whose ADP sits at 51.58. Value wise, I think Marshall is better bang for your buck, but Royal is obviously the guy I'm more comfortable drafting for a money squad.<br /><br /><strong>Other Camp Notes With Fantasy Spin:<br /><img hspace="4" border="1" align="right" vspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/09/matt-jones-jags-150t.jpg" id="vimage_2" alt="Matt Jones" /></strong>o. Remember <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Matt+Jones/">Matt Jones</a>? Oh, come on, it hasn't been that long since we saw mustachio. "Scoop" Mortensen reported that <a href="http://twitter.com/mortreport/status/3718485288" target="_blank">Jones will work out for the Titans</a>, with the <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/chicago-bears/">Bears</a> and <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/dallas-cowboys/">Cowboys</a> monitoring to see how he does. At 26 years old, Jones can't be written off yet, and I'm sure my colleague Chris Burke would be happy <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/07/20/troubled-talented-receiver-worth-risk/" target="_blank">if he gets a legitimate shot</a>, but Jones shouldn't be on fantasy radars unless you play in a deep keeper league. Even if the <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/tennessee-titans/">Titans</a> give him a chance, I'm more keen on fantasy potential for <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/kenny-britt/9294">Kenny Britt</a> and <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/nate-washington/7492">Nate Washington</a> (when he recovers).<br /><br />o. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/michael-vick/5448">Michael Vick's</a> eligibility <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/09/02/sources-vick-likely-eligible-for-week-one/" target="_blank">could be determined very soon</a>. Ho hum, nothing to see here. Seriously though, unless you're in a two-QB or really deep league, you shouldn't be concerned about Vick. I know he's a big name, but it'll take a <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/donovan-mcnabb/4650">Donovan McNabb</a> injury to start the pulse of most leagues.<br /><br />o. As <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/matt-schaub/6849">Matt Schaub</a> recovers from a sprained ankle, <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/09/02/is-matt-schaub-injury-prone/" target="_blank">FanHouse's own Stephanie Stradley</a> questions whether the <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/houston-texans/">Texans</a> QB has been slapped with the ol' injury-prone label. I agree with her that some of Schaub's issues appeared to be just crappy luck and pains of the position. But I will say that it's not inspiring any confidence to see him in a protective boot before the season even begins.<br /><br />o. <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/darren-mcfadden/8781">Darren McFadden</a> owners can exhale next week. That's when Raiders coach <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Tom+Cable/">Tom Cable</a> said he'll name <a href="http://www.ibabuzz.com/oaklandraiders/2009/09/02/cameo-for-russell-offense/" target="_blank">a starting running back</a> for Week 1. Oakland's final preseason game will be worth monitoring. <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Justin+Fargas/">Justin Fargas</a> has that gimpy hamstring, so he's out. <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Michael+Bush/">Michael Bush</a> will be bruising right along. But when all is said and done, McFadden will be the most valuable fantasy back on this team by far. Let's just hope he stops <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2008/10/30/phillip-knights-shoes-are-ruining-darren-mcfaddens-rookie-seas/" target="_blank">wearing crappy shoes</a>.<br /><br />o. It's beginning to look like <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Sammy+Morris/">Sammy Morris</a>, one of last year's waiver-wire gems, <a href="http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/2009/09/projecting_the_2.html" target="_blank">could be the odd man out</a> in the Patriots' running back picture. Many are not even bothering with New England's rushers in fantasy leagues, but I've taken <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Fred+Taylor/">Fred Taylor</a> as a flier on a couple of teams already. I think Taylor, along with <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Kevin+Faulk/">Kevin Faulk</a> (yes, him again), could have the most consistent week-to-week production.<br /><br /><a target="_blank" href="http://www.rotoworld.com/referredby/refer.asp?id=AOL&amp;url=http://www.rotoworld.com/premium/draftguide/football/main_page.aspx"><img hspace="4" border="1" align="right" vspace="4" alt="Rotoworld Draft Guide" id="vimage_3" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/09/fbdg_186x124.jpg" /></a>o. <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Matthew+Stafford/">Matthew Stafford</a> may have won the Lions' quarterback battle before it's even been decided. With <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Daunte+Culpepper/">Daunte Culpepper</a> doubtful for Detroit's final preseason game (<a href="http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2009/09/daunte_culpepper_remains_doubt_1.html" target="_blank">sore foot</a>), Stafford will get a major opportunity to secure the QB gig. Whoever Jim Schwartz chooses, I'm still lovin' <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Calvin+Johnson/">Calvin Johnson</a> and <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Kevin+Smith/">Kevin Smith</a>.<br /><br /><strong>A Pair of Amusing Quotes:</strong><br />o. <span class="status-body"><span class="entry-content">"In exchange w/ league source last night, said I thought Crabtree would sign Labor Day. Take <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/knowshon-moreno/9276">Knowshon Moreno</a>, for instance, who suffered an MCL sprain just over two weeks ago. Since that time, Moreno's draft stock has sunk from a fourth-round pick to an average draft position of 67.04, according to <a target="_blank" href="http://www.mockdraftcentral.com/">Mock Draft Central</a>.<br /><br />Before, many considered Moreno a draft risk because of the hype. Now? We have a big value opportunity. <hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" />
<div align="center"><strong><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/category/draft-advice/">More FanHouse Advice</a> | <a target="_blank" href="http://www.rotoworld.com/referredby/refer.asp?id=AOL&amp;url=http://www.rotoworld.com/premium/draftguide/football/main_page.aspx">Get Extra Edge With Rotoworld's Premium Draft Kit</a></strong></div>
<hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" /><br />We haven't heard many updates on Moreno's progress, but it looks like he's right on target for Week 1. According to <a target="_blank" href="http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/2009/09/01/knowshon-is-practicing/"><span style="font-style: italic;">The Denver Post</span></a>, Moreno was back on the practice field and able to participate in individual and position drills.<br /><br />
<div style="float: right;"> <script type="text/javascript"> tweetmeme_source = 'FantasyFanHouse'; </script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js"></script> </div>
It doesn't matter that he'll miss the final preseason game; this rest period is a good thing. What matters is that he gets to face the <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/cincinnati-bengals/" class="injectedLink">Bengals</a>, <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/cleveland-browns/" class="injectedLink">Browns</a>, <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/oakland-raiders/" class="injectedLink">Raiders</a> to kick off his <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/" class="injectedLink">NFL</a> career. If you're snagging Moreno in the sixth round, it's possible you'll already have your quarterback, two running backs and two wide receivers drafted. Moreno will be your RB3/Flex and very worthy of a starting spot over the first few weeks.<br /><br />Other players I've noticed slipping to steal territory in recent drafts are <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/terrell-owens/3664" class="injectedLink">Terrell Owens</a> (toe injury contributes to lack of love), <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/brian-westbrook/5977" class="injectedLink">Brian Westbrook</a> (ankle surgery), and <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/brandon-marshall/7868" class="injectedLink">Brandon Marshall</a> (suspension woes). It's OK to be wary, but don't be scared to the point of missing out on a prime buying opportunity.<br /><br /><strong>Other Camp Notes With Fantasy Spin:</strong><br />o. Carolina bruiser <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/jonathan-stewart/8790" class="injectedLink">Jonathan Stewart</a> hasn't done anything to inspire confidence over the past month. According to Darin Gantt of <a href="http://www.heraldonline.com/sports/story/1572878.html" target="_blank"><em>The Rock Hill Herald</em></a>, Stewart has only taken part in eight practices all year and hasn't been on the field at all since Aug. 11. He continues to sit out practice with a sore Achilles. Feel secure with that <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/deangelo-williams/7776">DeAngelo Williams</a> pick and give Stewart a bump down.<br /><br /><img hspace="4" vspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="Andre Smith" id="vimage_2" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/09/andre-smith-090209.jpg" />o. Well, that was a short-lived stay on the active roster for <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/andre-smith/9270" class="injectedLink">Andre Smith</a>. The Bengals' offensive lineman is out <a target="_blank" href="http://www.fanhouse.com/news/nfl/andre-smith-breaks-foot-in-practice/651041">after fracturing his foot</a> in a non-contact drill. Fortunately, Cincinnati has a solid lineman in <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/anthony-collins/8889" class="injectedLink">Anthony Collins</a> to fill his spot at right tackle, so I don't see this affecting <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/carson-palmer/6337" class="injectedLink">Carson Palmer's</a> draft value.<br /><br />o. Speaking of Carson Palmer, <a target="_blank" href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp09/news/story?id=4438326&amp;campaign=rss&amp;source=NFLHeadlines">John Clayton of ESPN.com</a> reports that Bengals coach <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Marvin+Lewis/">Marvin Lewis</a> was impressed by his QB during a portion of team practice Tuesday. "The goal is to have him ready to go full-speed by Monday," Lewis said. He'll have a cushy matchup with Denver's secondary to start the season before the going gets tough.<br /><br />o. The <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/dallas-cowboys/" class="injectedLink">Cowboys</a> welcomed back <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Roy+Williams/">Roy Williams</a> to practice Tuesday. <a target="_blank" href="http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2009/09/roy-williams-returns-to-practice-proves.html"><span style="font-style: italic;">The Dallas Morning News</span></a> reported that Williams looked a little sore, but moved around well and even launched a few passes in drills. Continue to draft him as a WR3, but don't reach for him further than that.<br /><br />o. Kansas City may be the team I'm most scared of drafting any player from. Aside from <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/matt-cassel/7406" class="injectedLink">Matt Cassel's</a> injury, it's hard to get any good vibes. <a target="_blank" href="http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&amp;id=3184">Rotoworld pointed out</a> that the Chiefs' updated official depth chart lists Mark Bradley as the starting flanker, with Terrance Copper at split end. It's only a matter of time before this is corrected and <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Dwayne+Bowe/">Dwayne Bowe</a> is up there, but it's annoying for fantasy owners nonetheless. In the ideal situation, I think Bowe is a WR1, easily. We all know he's a tremendous talent. But on this team, he's a safer pick as a WR2. <br /><br /><a target="_blank" href="http://www.twitter.com/FantasyFanHouse"><img hspace="4" vspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="Fantasy FanHouse on Twitter" id="vimage_2" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/09/fantasy-fanhouse-twitter.jpg" /></a>o. Raiders running back Justin Fargas <a href="http://www.ibabuzz.com/oaklandraiders/2009/09/01/ice-cube-in-alameda-nnamdi-a-spectator/" target="_blank">hasn't returned to practice</a> since straining his hamstring two weeks ago. This is good news for <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Darren+McFadden/">Darren McFadden</a> owners, especially if McFadden can deliver in Oakland's final preseason game. D-Mac is a good fourth-round pick, but more power to you if he falls to the fifth. Oakland's receiving corps continue to look like a confounding mess.<br /><br />o. <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Antonio+Bryant/">Antonio Bryant</a> will not play <a href="http://www.pewterreport.com/articles/view/5810" target="_blank">in the Bucs' final preseason game</a>, which we expected. With Tampa Bay's combo of <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Derrick+Ward/">Derrick Ward</a> and <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Earnest+Graham/">Earnest Graham</a> set to pound the ball, you shouldn't be drafting Bryant as anything more than a WR3, or more appropriately, a WR4. <br /><br />o. It's becoming increasingly likely that <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Troy+Williamson/">Troy Williamson</a> will secure <a href="http://www.jacksonville.com/sports/football/jaguars/2009-09-01/story/recovering_jaguars_trying_to_regain_footing" target="_blank">the Jags' No. 2 receiver spot</a> opposite <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Torry+Holt/">Torry Holt</a>. I've been burnt by supporting Williamson before, but he could be worth a look in 14- or 16-team leagues as a WR3. Jacksonville needs the deep threat and Williamson has offered a glimpse of his unfulfilled potential this preseason.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/09/01/fantasy-football-cut-n-go-knowshon-rollin-back-on-track-for-op/">Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: Knowshon Rollin' Back on Track for Opener</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com">Fantasy Football Fanhouse</a> on Tue, 01 Sep 2009 23:40:00 EST . Sports, that Cassel could miss the season opener as he'll <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=jc-chiefscassel083009&amp;prov=yhoo&amp;type=lgns" target="_blank">be out two to four weeks with a strained medial collateral ligament</a> in his knee. The injury isn't expected to require surgery but will force <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/tyler-thigpen/8471">Tyler Thigpen</a> into action. <hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" />
<div align="center"><strong><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/category/draft-advice/">More FanHouse Advice</a> | <a target="_blank" href="http://www.rotoworld.com/referredby/refer.asp?id=AOL&amp;url=http://www.rotoworld.com/premium/draftguide/football/main_page.aspx">Get Extra Edge With Rotoworld's Premium Draft Kit</a></strong></div>

Thigpen, who had been the subject of trade rumors earlier this week, played in 14 games last season when the Chiefs went through injuries at quarterback. He finished the season with 18 touchdown passes, 12 interceptions and a quarterback rating of 76.0.</blockquote><blockquote>Cassel also suffered an ankle injury, but that was not considered as serious as the MCL injury.</blockquote>This news will surely cause fantasy football owners who have already drafted Cassel to seriously search for another early-season option, especially if Cassel is a No. 1 option on (a strategy not suggested) said fantasy squads. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl" target="_blank"><img hspace="4" vspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/08/fleaflicker_186x124.jpg" id="vimage_2" alt="Fleaflicker" /></a>For those that haven't drafted yet, Cassel surely will fall out of the seventh round now. Davis, who was known as "Thunder" during his time at Clemson, rushed for over 3,000 yards and 36 touchdowns over his first three seasons. His yards per carry was 5.0 or above in each of his first three seasons. But after a "down" senior year of only 751 yards, Davis slipped down <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/">NFL</a> draft boards. While Davis' performance was inconsistent, Clemson's offensive line was also to blame.<br /><br />Humbled and anxious to prove his worth, Davis has impressed over Cleveland's last two preseason games with his burst and sharp cutbacks <span style="font-style: italic;">(sound familiar? He reminds some of a young <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/jamal-lewis/5034">Jamal Lewis</a>)</span>. Against Tennessee on Saturday night, Davis rushed five times for 28 yards and caught four passes for 27 yards. Lewis sputtered for 23 yards on 10 carries. <br /><br />But it was this 81-yard touchdown run versus Detroit that really seemed to catapult Davis from last-round flier to legitimate fantasy sleeper:<br /><br /> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SCo_oAglu48&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SCo_oAglu48&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <br /><br /> Reports started to crop up recently that Lewis looked <a href="http://www.ohio.com/sports/browns/54613067.html" target="_blank">"decidedly unquick"</a> and <a href="http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2009/08/as_far_as_jamal_lewis_and_the.html" target="_blank">"slow and tentative"</a>. While it's important not to overreact to training camp talk, there is no arguing that Davis' <a href="http://www.mockdraftcentral.com/index.jsp" target="_blank">Average Draft Position</a> of No. 172 is far too low.<br /><br />Lewis is 30 years old and coming off a clean-up surgery on his ankle. Davis is seven years younger and a hungry rookie. So far this preseason, Davis' yards per carry stands at 7.8. Lewis? He's averaging 2.6 yards. Early on, we talked about how versatile back <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/jerome-harrison/7894">Jerome Harrison</a> could be one to watch, but now that Harrison has been sidelined the last three weeks with an ankle injury, our attention shifts firmly over to Davis.<br /><br />Also consider Lewis is only signed through 2010. He's still going to be the starter this year and a willing mentor for the rookie, but it's not a stretch to think Davis could be starting, or at least in a timeshare, by season's end.<br /><br />At the very least, Davis looks like an underrated keeper and it's time to get him stashed in standard leagues as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/08/31/its-only-preseason-but-james-davis-is-already-bringing-the/">It's Only Preseason, but ... We can, however, learn things from certain important players by simply paying attention. <span style="font-weight: bold;">"It's only preseason, but ... "</span> spins what we're seeing from an individual and how it impacts his fantasy value.<br /><br /></em>After a third preseason game that featured a majority of starters getting playing time, it's safe to say that <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/ahmad-bradshaw/8504" class="injectedLink">Ahmad Bradshaw</a> is still being undervalued in drafts. I'm checking out the ADP reports, and I see Bradshaw going in the same round as <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/lesean-mccoy/9317" class="injectedLink">LeSean McCoy</a>, <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/jamal-lewis/5034" class="injectedLink">Jamal Lewis</a>, <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/julius-jones/6802" class="injectedLink">Julius Jones</a> and <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/darren-sproles/7306" class="injectedLink">Darren Sproles</a>. That, my friends, is a travesty.<br /> <hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" />
<div align="center"><strong><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/category/draft-advice/">More FanHouse Advice</a> | <a target="_blank" href="http://www.rotoworld.com/referredby/refer.asp?id=AOL&amp;url=http://www.rotoworld.com/premium/draftguide/football/main_page.aspx">Get Extra Edge With Rotoworld's Premium Draft Kit</a></strong></div>
<hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" /><br />First, some history. In 2008, Giants RB1 <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/brandon-jacobs/7286" class="injectedLink">Brandon Jacobs</a> received 219 carries and 12 targets in the passing game, recording a total of 1,125 yards and 15 TDs. Giants RB2 <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/derrick-ward/6994" class="injectedLink">Derrick Ward</a> received 182 carries and 55 targets, recording a total of 1,409 yards and two TDs. Bradshaw, as the RB3, received 67 carries and six targets, gaining 397 yards and scoring two TDs.<br /><br />As a unit, those three RBs gained 2,469 yards on the ground and 462 yards through the air. That goes to show you the dominance of the Giants offensive line.<br /><br />As we know, Ward has moved on for more money in Tampa Bay. Bradshaw now gets promoted to the RB2 role, with <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/danny-ware/8524" class="injectedLink">Danny Ware</a> taking over as the RB3. Worried by the lack of TDs? Well, in most leagues 300 yards equates to five scores. How would you feel about nabbing an 1,100-yard, seven-TD back as your No. 4 RB? That's generally how Bradshaw is being drafted, as he's still outside the Top 35 at the position.<br /><br />Now, it's possible that the Giants play from behind more this year and don't approach 2,400 yards rushing again. But it's also possible that with <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/plaxico-burress/5037" class="injectedLink">Plaxico Burress</a> and <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Amani+Toomer/">Amani Toomer</a> having departed, the Giants could focus on the running game more than ever.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl"><img hspace="4" vspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="Fleaflicker Fantasy Football" id="vimage_2" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/08/fleaflicker_186x124.jpg" /></a>And it's possible that the RB2 in the offense doesn't put up 1,400 total yards again. I also want to point you to the fact that Bradshaw scored the same number of times on 72 touches (twice) that Ward did on 223 touches. With Bradshaw taking on more of the workload, it's possible he displays more of a nose for the end zone. If that's the case, then we could be looking at a back with a 1,400-yard, six-TD upside. That's something I'd overdraft to have as my third RB, much less my RB4.<br /><br />Let's come back to the present. Bradshaw saw a significant amount of time with the first team, about equal to Jacobs' work, before the second team came in and Danny Ware got his shot. Bradshaw rushed for 47 yards on eight carries, compared to Jacobs' 24 yards on six carries. It's only preseason, but it looks like this could be a pretty equal time share in 2009, one that features one of the best run-blocking lines in all of football.<br /><br />While other people are busy drafting RB2s like <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/lendale-white/7794" class="injectedLink">LenDale White</a>, <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/jonathan-stewart/8790" class="injectedLink">Jonathan Stewart</a> and <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/donald-brown/9291" class="injectedLink">Donald Brown</a> to be their flex back or primary backup, you would be wise to get your hands on Bradshaw. Don't be afraid to reach a little high for him and make him your RB3 -- all indications point to him being worth the price.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/08/30/its-only-preseason-but-ahmad-bradshaw-undervalued/">It's Only Preseason, but ... Houshmandzadeh / Chad Ochocinco" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/08/housh-ocho-200.jpg" />It feels kind of like Batman and Robin have broken up and went their separate ways. The dynamic duo that once roamed the open field for the <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/cincinnati-bengals" class="injectedLink">Cincinnati Bengals</a> in no more! <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/t.j.-houshmandzadeh/5652">T.J. Houshmandzadeh</a> bolted town, leaving his old buddy from college and the pros <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/chad-ochocinco/5483" class="injectedLink">Chad Ochocinco</a> all alone, trapped in the jungle. Well, the question that begs is who is gonna be better off, or will they both suffer?<br /><br />Sounds like a raging debate that can only be settled by arguing. OK, more like weighing the pros and cons. And after a few emails back and forth, Ryan Dembinksy and I decided to tackle this proposition. Let's get debating, shall we? <hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" />
<div align="center"><strong><a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl">Play Fantasy Football</a> | <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/08/07/fanhouses-fantasy-football-draft-kit/">FanHouse's Free Draft Kit</a> | <a href="http://www.rotoworld.com/referredby/refer.asp?id=AOL&amp;url=http://www.rotoworld.com/premium/draftguide/football/main_page.aspx">Rotoworld's Premium Kit</a><br />More From Switched.com: <a href="http://www.switched.com/2009/08/26/7-signs-youre-a-fantasy-football-nerd/">Seven Signs You're a Fantasy Football Fan</a></strong></div>
<hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Sean Lalley</span>: It probably surprises most of you when I say that the Ocho is the obvious choice of who will benefit most. I'm not saying Houshmandzadeh will become a ghost of the past, but he's not going to be putting up 100+ catches and making annual trips to Hawaii. He's headed to Seattle, where he'll get his fair share of touches as the No. 1 wide receiver. However, the Seahawks offense has never really produced top-flight receivers on a regular basis. Only once in the past seven seasons has a WR grabbed more than 90 passes. <br /><br />
<div style="float: right;"> <script type="text/javascript"> tweetmeme_source = 'FantasyFanHouse'; </script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js"></script> </div>
This offense is made for spreading it around to the receivers that they can manage to keep healthy. Meanwhile, the Bengals did a solid job of replacing Houshmandzadeh with an aging <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/laveranues-coles/5107">Laveranues Coles</a>, who will see some of the over-the-middle looks that Palmer used to direct to Houshmandzadeh. <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/chris-henry/7259">Chris Henry</a> isn't suspended and could be in position to have a decent season and help open things up more so for the Ocho. <br /><br />Coming off his worst season to date, Ochocinco is ready to shed all doubters and rebuild that rapport he once had with a finally (<span style="font-style: italic;">well hopefully</span>) healthy <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/carson-palmer/6337">Carson Palmer</a>. All bets are off if Palmer goes down. I just like the chances of Ocho having that bounce-back year and returning to the lofty throne of the upper-echelon WRs. Am I expecting too much? Not really. He's getting drafted with the Dominik Hixons of the world. Why not go with Ocho about two rounds later than Housh and thank me later. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/bloggers/ryan-dembinsky/"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Ryan Dembinsky</span></a>: Did you really just make a Batman and Robin analogy? Wow. I think the more appropriate reference is Huey Lewis is leaving Clover and moving on to form the News. <br /><br /> <iframe height="185" frameborder="0" width="205" align="right" src="http://webcenter.polls.aol.com/modular.jsp?template=1386&amp;view=175004&amp;pollId=175292&amp;channel=aol_us_sports&amp;popup=yes" class="poll"></iframe> Anyway, truth be told, I think both Ocho and Houshmandzadeh will have pretty solid seasons, but Housh still looks like the safer bet. As you said, Ocho is coming off his worst season ever with the exception of his rookie year in 2002 (<span style="font-style: italic;">and not by much</span>) and his gunslinger Carson Palmer stunk it up and eventually sat the season out after playing awful in four games. Palmer keeps feeding the 100% bait to the media, but he opted against Tommy John surgery in the elbow and already has an ankle sprain causing him to miss preseason time, so something tells me Carson Palmer <a target="_blank" href="http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5g1q47RW_uzt41z8IFSV4jOFmFfMg">may not be as healthy as people think</a>. <br /><br />Sure both <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/t.j.-houshmandzadeh/5652">T.J. Houshmandzadeh</a> and his quarterback have a new offense to learn, but a player with three consecutive seasons with over 90 catches moving into the No. 1 wide receiver role is no reason to doubt him. The targets will be up and Seattle looks like it has the better running game of the two teams, so even though Houshmandzadeh will get more attention, defenses will still have to be honest. In this case, more targets should still be a good thing. Plus, he should get a few more big play opportunities as opposed to being the near-total possession guy that he was in Cincinnati. <br /><br />In the end, this is a case of two uncertain futures and two very talented wide receivers, but given the history, there is no reason to expect a big drop-off from Houshmandzadeh. He's happy as can be in Seattle, excited to play with Hasselbeck, loves his new offensive coordinator in Greg Knapp, and the lack of Ochocinco distractions should prove a relief. The big news comes from this preseason's ongoing whine-storm, <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Brandon+Marshall/">Brandon Marshall</a>, as he finally broke the last straw with new head coach Josh McDaniels. After seemingly endless disruptive behavior from Marshall, <a target="_blank" href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4428598">McDaniels finally snapped and suspended Marshall through Sept. 5th</a>.<br /><br />He might play come the regular season, but you would think there is a high chance this suspension could extend or Marshall could still end up elsewhere this season. One thing is certain: downgrade this jerk in your <a target="_blank" href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/08/14/fantasy-football-wide-receiver-rankings-version-3-0/">wide receiver rankings</a>. <br /><br />There's plenty more going on elsewhere in the league, so let's take a look-see around the horn. <hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" />
<div align="center"><strong><a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl">Play Fantasy Football</a> | <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/08/07/fanhouses-fantasy-football-draft-kit/">FanHouse's Free Draft Kit</a> | <a href="http://www.rotoworld.com/referredby/refer.asp?id=AOL&amp;url=http://www.rotoworld.com/premium/draftguide/football/main_page.aspx">Rotoworld's Premium Kit</a></strong></div>
<hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" /><br />o. While the Dallas Cowboys thought they would be happy to be rid of one of the league's other big-mouthed brats, <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Terrell+Owens/">Terrell Owens</a>, Dallas' key replacement <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Roy+Williams/">Roy Williams</a> suffered a shoulder injury. <span style="font-style: italic;">The Dallas Morning News</span> reports that <a target="_blank" href="http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2009/08/x-rays-negative-on-roy-williams-shoulder.html">X-rays came back negative</a>. The Cowboys have listed Williams as day-to-day with a "shoulder contusion," but it looks like he'll be ready for the regular season.<br /><br />o. The big news from Lincoln Financial Field as reported by the <span style="font-style: italic;">Philadelphia Inquirer</span> was that Eagles head coach <a href="http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/55629847.html?cmpid=15585797" target="_blank">Andy Reid utilized </a><a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Michael+Vick/">Michael Vick</a> in six plays in Thursday night's preseason game, during five of which he lined up at quarterback in the Wildcat formation and once at receiver in the slot. With all the negative publicity the Eagles have had to fight through to justify picking up Vick, you can rest assured they will get him in the game. Hence, teams will need to start preparing accordingly to adapt to these less-than-conventional looks. From a fantasy perspective, the more relevant issue is that this makes <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Donovan+McNabb/">Donovan McNabb</a> look less appealing.<br /><br /><a target="_blank" href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl"><img hspace="4" vspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="Fleaflicker" id="vimage_2" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/08/fleaflicker_186x124.jpg" /></a>o. One notable player to watch on Saturday will be Detroit Lions' first-rounder<span style="text-decoration: underline;"> </span><a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Brandon+Pettigrew/">Brandon Pettigrew</a>. <span style="font-style: italic;">MLive </span>reports that <a href="http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2009/08/phillip_buchanon_anthony_henry.html" target="_blank">Pettigrew will see his first preseason action on Saturday</a>, which may or may not lead to a starting job in Week 1. The Lions clearly have high hopes for Pettigrew given the fact that they jumped on him over far more pressing needs, so look for the Lions to give him every opportunity to contribute this year. As for the starting quarterback come Week 1, it's still up in the air according to coach <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Jim+Schwartz/">Jim Schwartz</a>, but Daunte Culpepper will get the start in the final preseason game, so odds are leaning in his favor.<br /><br />o. The <span style="font-style: italic;">Pittsburgh Post-Gazette</span> reports that <a href="http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09240/993862-66.stm?cmpid=relatedarticle" target="_blank">Rashard Mendenhall will start on Saturday against the Buffalo Bills</a>. With fast <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Willie+Parker/">Willie Parker</a> out this week with a hamstring injury, the Steelers seek to get a good look at what Mendenhall can do. Parker does not appear to be seriously hurt, so do not expect a radical jump in value from Mendenhall, but this is certainly an opportunity for him to solidify a bigger role in the offense.<br /><br />o. The <span style="font-style: italic;">Las Vegas Review Journal</span> takes a look at rookie running back value and <a href="http://www.lvrj.com/sports/55668877.html" target="_blank">brings up a less well-known name in James Davis for Cleveland</a>. Davis cranked off an 81-yard touchdown run and 116 yards on the ground against the Lions (so take from it what you will) and appears to be making a bit of a run at the starting spot, working a good amount with the first team. This guy looks to be a decent deep sleeper pick if he manages to stay under the radar.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/08/28/fantasy-football-cut-n-go-the-jerk-starring-brandon-marshall/">Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: The Jerk, Starring Brandon Marshall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com">Fantasy Football Fanhouse</a> on Fri, 28 Aug 2009 23:00:00 EST . Or you can draft a stud early and end up with your season done in Week 1, like folks who pulled the trigger on <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/tom-brady/5228">Tom Brady</a> last season. <br /><br />Most people, however, prefer to wait a little while into a draft before drafting a signal-caller though. And this year, two guys who will be getting a TON of mid-round love are <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/philip-rivers/6763">Philip Rivers</a> and <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/donovan-mcnabb/4650">Donovan McNabb</a>. With that in mind, myself and R.J. White went toe-to-toe over the course of several e-mails (although with the way I like to write -- read: loquacious -- I'm sure R.J. felt like it was a week's worth) to determine who's the better pick this year.<br /><br />So, in the words of Wilco, let's get this party started. (With some mid-tempo rock!)<br /><hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" />
<div align="center"><strong><a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl">Play Fantasy Football</a> | <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/08/07/fanhouses-fantasy-football-draft-kit/">FanHouse's Free Draft Kit</a> | <a href="http://www.rotoworld.com/referredby/refer.asp?id=AOL&amp;url=http://www.rotoworld.com/premium/draftguide/football/main_page.aspx">Rotoworld's Premium Kit</a></strong></div>
<hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" /><br /><strong>Brinson:</strong> Let's go ahead and get this out of the way -- I am a huge Rivers fan. I went to school with him at NC State, I watched him dominate for four years, I've seen the majority of his games with the Chargers, I've drafted him in numerous leagues ever since the Bolts traded Brees and I still firmly believe that Rivers is the best quarterback from his draft class. <br /><br /> I also believe that he's one of the elite quarterbacks available in fantasy drafts this year and yet, somehow, you won't have to pay elite price for him, relatively speaking. Of course, you might not have to pay elite price for Donovan McNabb, but it seems a little bit silly to go through the whole "D-Nasty is really -- no, no, seriously! -- going to stay healthy and have the best year of his career this year" charade again when the reality is that McNabb, without an elite receiver to complement he and <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/brian-westbrook/5977">Brian Westbrook</a> in the offense, will not be as good as Rivers this year. <br /><br /> For reasons, of course, that I'll expand on. But first, R.J., I assume you disagree?<br /><br /> <iframe height="185" frameborder="0" width="205" align="right" class="poll" src="http://webcenter.polls.aol.com/modular.jsp?template=1386&amp;view=175068&amp;pollId=175356&amp;channel=aol_us_sports&amp;popup=yes"></iframe> <strong>White</strong>: When does McNabb ever have an elite receiver? I'll take the trio of <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/desean-jackson/8826">DeSean Jackson</a>, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/kevin-curtis/6410">Kevin Curtis</a> and <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/brent-celek/8416">Brent Celek</a>, along with newly-drafted weapons <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/jeremy-maclin/9283">Jeremy Maclin</a> and <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/lesean-mccoy/9317">LeSean McCoy</a>. That group is probably the best talent McNabb has ever had to work with. Consider that he'll also be playing behind a line that added Pro Bowl tackle Jason Peters and Stacy Andrews, and it's quite possible McNabb could make a run at the top tier of QBs. <br /><br /> Did you know that in the course of his career, McNabb has never thrown more than 13 interceptions in a season? In fact, if you take his average yards, TDs, and interceptions per pass attempt in his career, last year's 3,916 yards, 23 TDs and 11 interceptions were perfectly average stats. 4,000 yards and a 2:1 TD:INT ratio is average over the course of a full season for the guy. Imagine what he'll do with an elite offensive line and two new weapons on offense. <br /><br /> With Brian Westbrook slated to play in the next preseason game, McNabb will be heading into the season with a full complement of talent surrounding him. That makes him dangerous, and a much better value than Rivers in fantasy drafts.<br /><br /><strong>Brinson: </strong>Hmmm. Well, while I won't deny the nice talent surrounding McNabb this year (I freaking LOVE Maclin and I think he'll be a nice complement to Jackson), let's not act like <a href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Terrell+Owens/">Terrell Owens</a> wasn't once a Philadelphia Eagle. Like, in 2004. Which, not so coincidentally, is one of only two years that has seen McNabb top 3,500 yards on the football field. <br /><br /> Of course, if you want to discuss total yardage, you could always throw out the "but McNabb's almost never healthy!" Which is a statement that I'd be hard-pressed to disagree with; 9,10,14,16 are his games played the last four years, which would be nice except he's getting older and any implication that he's guaranteed to be healthy again this year (only once has he played in all 16 games in back-to-back seasons) is simply silly. <br /><br /> Rivers, on the other hand, hasn't missed a game in the three seasons that he's been the starter for the Chargers. Now, before you yell at me for sample size, let's consider how beneficial it is that he's only played three full years: McNabb has the wear and tear of 10 full seasons as a starter; Phil's likelihood of staying healthy is substantially higher, provided you're willing to exclude any fluke injury scenarios. <br /><br /> Oh yes, and in those three years, how good (and underrated, really) has Rivers been? He tossed for over 4,000 yards and 34 TDs last year. The last time D-Nasty hit those numbers was, um, let me see here ... well, dang. My computer must be broken, because I can't find that year on the googlez. But all crappy jokes aside, it's fairly important to note as well that in Rivers' first season as a starter, he threw for 3,388 yards and 22 touchdowns, which at this point would go down as the third or fourth best season in McNabb's career if he managed to put it up this year.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl"><img hspace="4" vspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="Fleaflicker" id="vimage_2" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/08/fleaflicker_186x124.jpg" /></a><strong>White:</strong> You can play the injury card as much as you want, but the truth is that anybody can go down at any time. No one is guaranteed to be healthy. Tom Brady wasn't injury-prone and looked like a super-safe pick heading into 2008, before Bernard Pollard ended his season. I do believe McNabb has a better line than Rivers, and this should help reduce the number of bone-jarring shots McNabb has to take during the season. <br /><br /> I don't doubt that Rivers will be good in 2009, so I can't trash him in this space. But while Rivers looks the part of a solid second-tier QB, McNabb has the upside to be a first-tier QB and challenge for the QB1 title this season. With his rock-solid portfolio in tow, McNabb as a sixth-round pick has the kind of upside that can win a fantasy season. I'll take him and pair him with a consistent QB2, in case McNabb does miss a game or two. When Weeks 15 and 16 roll around, and McNabb is racking up fantasy points at home against San Francisco and Denver, I'll be that much closer to a fantasy title.<br /><br /><strong>Brinson: </strong>No doubt on the random injury thing -- it's why I cautioned against drafting Tom Brady too early last season (/end shameless self promotion). Of course, that's not, obviously, because I knew he was getting injured; it's because I didn't think Brady was good value at the front of the first round. That proved to be true, just much earlier (and easier!) than I expected. <br /><br /> I don't mention that because I'm a braggart (I am, of course, but that's not the purpose here), but because I think the only knock on Rivers -- maybe -- is the value card. You're burning a third-, fourth-, or fifth-round pick on him, and I don't like to pick up quarterbacks that early. Of course, the other options available are Aaron Rodgers, Kurt Warner, Tony Romo and McNabb, at least in terms of where they're tiered out respective to draft position. And frankly, as good as Warner is, and as much as I like Rodgers, I think Rivers is the best option out of all the people there. <br /><br /> So if you're looking for a non-elite quarterback -- and I think you could argue there are only two in Drew Brees and Brady this year -- Rivers is almost unquestionably the guy in my mind. One of the reasons I love him so much? His schedule, particularly when paired against McNabb. SF and Denver are solid playoff options, but they're certainly not a chop-licking Week 15 matchup against the Bengals. Additionally, I think the loss of Albert Haynesworth will be debilitating to Tennessee, although it's hard to argue with a straight face that they won't be at least "good" defensively. But, hey, for all we know, Rivers won't even be playing in those weeks. <br /><br /> That's right. We all just remembered he plays in the AFC West. That means <span style="font-weight: bold;">two</span> matchups against the Broncos, Raiders and Chiefs. Awkwardly, the Eagles also get those teams, and the Chargers have to face the NFC East, but at least it's only once.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/08/28/fantasy-football-coin-flip-philip-rivers-or-donovan-mcnabb/">Fantasy Football Coin Flip: Philip Rivers or Donovan McNabb</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com">Fantasy Football Fanhouse</a> on Fri, 28 Aug 2009 15:15:00 EST . Reports are that Myers has done more than impress with just his blocking; <a target="_blank" href="http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gJGvL9tkA5bHk_1idC_7i_14Z3KwD9AB02L00">his pass-catching abilities have really caught everyone's attention</a>. Don't look now, but <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/carnell-williams/7181">Cadillac Williams</a> is returning to action as we speak. After a few devastating knee injuries <a target="_blank" href="http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/aug/26/260710/sp-cadillac-finally-will-get-his-chance/sports/">he's once again climbed out of the dumps</a> and is attempting to make another valiant return. Don't get all nostalgic in thinking it's 2005 all over again, but his name alone is worth watching on the waiver wire if nothing else. That said, the job is still in the clutches of <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/derrick-ward/6994">Derrick Ward</a> and <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/earnest-graham/7108">Earnest Graham</a> for short yardage and/or the occasional goal-line look. <br /><br />o. Who will be the No. 2 wide receiver in Washington? It's an ongoing battle between <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/devin-thomas/8811">Devin Thomas</a>, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/malcolm-kelly/8828">Malcolm Kelly</a> and Antwaan Randle El. At the start of camp it appeared as though Thomas would be the guy, <a target="_blank" href="http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/at-wide-receiver-its-a-questio.html?wprss=redskinsinsider">but now it's anybody's chance to grab that spot</a>. Pardon my Michigan State bias, but my hunch tells me Thomas has the best chance to eventually win the spot. It might not be right away, but monitor Thomas as a super-duper deep sleeper if he gets the chance. Then again, I said that last year. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl"><img hspace="4" vspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="Fleaflicker" id="vimage_2" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/08/fleaflicker_186x124.jpg" /></a>o. <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/donnie-avery/8810">Donnie Avery</a>, who figures to be focal point of the Rams' passing offense, returned to the practice field and proclaims himself ready to roll. <a target="_blank" href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp09/news/story?id=4422371&amp;campaign=rss&amp;source=NFLHeadlines">He's returning from a stress fracture</a> and was originally thought to miss a couple regular-season games. Time will tell, but don't let him pass you by in the later rounds by being overly concerned. He could help you out. <br /><br />o. It may be time to start getting pretty skeptical on <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/carson-palmer/6337">Carson Palmer</a>'s health. <a target="_blank" href="http://espn.go.com/blog/afcnorth/post/_/id/2191/source-palmer-out-vs-rams-maybe-preseason">He's been hurt the majority of this preseason</a> and he's probably not going to play a lick in the final few games. This my friends is a cause for concern for a guy who wasn't exactly 100% last offseason, and parlayed that into an injury-plagued campaign where he eventually hung up the cleats without ever really playing much. The moral of the story here is don't waste a pick on Palmer until the value is right. And that could very well be Round 10 or beyond. <br /><br />o. Everyone's favorite WR sleeper, <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/nate-washington/7492">Nate Washington</a>, is hamstrung in Tennessee. A hamstring injury is certainly something you <span style="font-style: italic;">should</span> worry about. <a target="_blank" href="http://www.tennessean.com/article/20090827/SPORTS01/908270375/1027">He was having a solid camp</a> and looked to be the threat the Titans sorely needed to help stretch the field for Chris Johnson. However, expecting him back for opening night is foolish. An injury like this could linger for several weeks. Monitor this situation closely if you had visions of snagging Washington.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/08/27/fantasy-football-cut-n-go-the-last-meaningless-weekend/">Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: The Last Meaningless Weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com">Fantasy Football Fanhouse</a> on Thu, 27 Aug 2009 21:10:00 EST . Despite looking uncertain and a lot like an inexperienced rookie this preseason, the Jets will entrust <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/mark-sanchez/9269">Mark Sanchez</a> to lead the franchise towards the future. From a <a class="injectedLink" href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl">fantasy football</a> perspective that is the only way to view Mark Sanchez -- by way of the future, meaning keeper leagues only for next year. Let's not lose the focus; he'll do you no good this season. <br /><br />What else is happening around the way? <hr color="#eeeeee" align="center" width="90%" size="2" />

<hr color="#eeeeee" align="center" width="90%" size="2" /><strong><br />Other Fantasy Related Camp News:</strong><br />o. The <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/detroit-lions">Detroit Lions</a> continue to nurse injuries in the receiving corps, which might explain the dismal showing against the Browns this past weekend ... or not.<span style=""> </span><a target="_blank" href="http://freep.com/article/20090825/SPORTS01/908250340/1049/SPORTS01/In-Big-3-s-absence--other-WRs-fail-to-step-up">I'm not sure how anyone could call this group the "Big 3.</a>"<span style=""> N</span>ot many are concerned about <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/bryant-johnson/6353">Bryant Johnson</a> or <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/dennis-northcutt/5061">Dennis Northcutt</a>.<span style=""> </span>All we really want to know is will <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/calvin-johnson/8256">Calvin Johnson</a> and the sore thumb be ready for the season?<span style=""> </span>Well, the "Big 3" including injured TE <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/brandon-pettigrew/9284">Brandon Pettigrew</a> have been practicing this week, so that's good.<br /><br /> o. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/terrell-owens/3664">Terrell Owens</a> is looking just fine <a target="_blank" href="http://blogs.buffalonews.com/billboard/2009/08/owens-looks-pretty-good.html">according to the <em>Buffalo News</em></a>. He's battling a lingering toe injury and the hunch here is that he will most likely sit out the remainder of the preseason. At least take solace in the fact that he looks good running routes right now in practice and don't let that dampen your plans to draft T.O., if in fact that is your plan. <br /><br />o. The Colts plan on not only making <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/reggie-wayne/5477">Reggie Wayne</a> (<em>once again</em>) the focal point of their passing game, but they are also <a target="_blank" href="http://www.indystar.com/article/20090825/SPORTS03/908250318/1058/SPORTS03/Colts+WR+Wayne+will+line+up+all+over+the+field">looking at creative ways to get Wayne the ball</a>. That means lining him up all over the field and in various formations, anything to throw off the defense. Look for Wayne to line up inside, outside, in bunch formations, right, left, up, down and around in circles. As always, the fantasy impact is steady as it goes for Wayne. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl"><img hspace="4" border="1" align="right" vspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/08/fleaflicker_186x124.jpg" id="vimage_2" alt="Fleaflicker" /></a>o. For those ready to stamp the <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/beanie-wells/9295">Beanie Wells</a> Express as the most desirable RB to own in Phoenix, think again. <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/larry-fitzgerald/6762">Larry Fitzgerald</a> makes mention that <a target="_blank" href="http://www.thespread.com/ap-news-nfl-100/fitzgerald-sees-more-fantasy-points-in-arizona.html">the Cardinals backfield will indeed by a RB by committee</a> with Wells and <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/tim-hightower/8926">Tim Hightower</a> splitting carries. He even goes on to mention that's simply the norm in today's <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/">NFL</a> and the goal is to keep everyone fresh. Thanks Larry, that's just what fantasy geeks love to hear ... not. <br /><br />o. It's all <a class="injectedLink" href="http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Brett+Favre/">Brett Favre</a> and all <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/michael-vick/5448">Michael Vick</a>, all the time. We will get a good look at both guys this week, as Favre expects to play an entire half and Vick will get extensive action for the Eagles. How will the new media outlets simply not explode? This may be the only glimpses we get for fantasy draft purposes, so pay close attention if you were thinking about taking a late-round flier on either guy.<br /><br />o. On the injury beat, <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/shaun-hill/6169">Shaun Hill</a> of the 49ers <a target="_blank" href="http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gulnlkOXKFJ59_aKJaiutXTzqOjQD9AAQ3U00">strained his lower back in practice Wednesday, but should be ready for the game against the Cowboys this weekend</a>. This is always worth monitoring, as we never do seem to get full disclosure on preseason injuries. Dually worth noting as some people (<em>myself included</em>) have a hunch on Shaun Hill as a late-round sleeper. <br /><br />o. <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/kyle-orton/7282">Kyle Orton</a> has no obstacles in his way as the starting QB in Denver. Not that there was much concern, but backup option Chris Simms has <a target="_blank" href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp09/news/story?id=4423361">suffered a high ankle sprain</a>. Yup, that's one of those lingering ankle injuries that always seem to last about two weeks longer than expected. It should come as no surprise that Orton will indeed be the starter. Now, if he's gonna start for your fantasy team on opening day -- that's another story. <br /><br />o. From the "this is actually kind of irrelevant" department, it looks like Matt Leinart is <a target="_blank" href="http://www.azcentral.com/sports/cardinals/articles/2009/08/25/20090825cardsnb0826.html">moving his way back into good graces in Arizona and could be the No. 2 QB on the depth chart</a>. Phew, I was worried for a second. Although, really it's no joking matter if Warner goes down, because Leinart would inherit a pretty decent offense.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/08/26/fantasy-football-cut-n-go-its-the-broadway-sanchez-show/">Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: It's the Broadway Sanchez Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com">Fantasy Football Fanhouse</a> on Wed, 26 Aug 2009 23:00:00 EST . But sorting through the rookie noise at quarterback can prove worthwhile as we all know how it feels to be digging through the waiver-wire trash on game days. Making the right choice on your rookie flier in the late rounds can end up saving the day on multiple occasions once those injuries and bye weeks come flying at you.<br /><br />The jury is still out on whether either of these guys will have much fantasy impact at this point, but so far they look like the two most likely candidates to get heavy repetitions, so let's get the debate rolling... <hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" />
<div align="center"><strong><a href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl">Play Fantasy Football</a> | <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/08/07/fanhouses-fantasy-football-draft-kit/">FanHouse's Free Draft Kit</a> | <a href="http://www.rotoworld.com/referredby/refer.asp?id=AOL&amp;url=http://www.rotoworld.com/premium/draftguide/football/main_page.aspx">Rotoworld's Premium Kit</a></strong></div>
<hr width="90%" size="2" color="#eeeeee" align="center" /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Dembinsky:</span> It'd be awfully easy to point at Mark Sanchez as a dead man walking from a fantasy perspective this week. Sanchez played like a scatterbrained youth in Monday night's defeat -- a loss that is largely attributed to Sanchez's awfulness -- going just 3-of-8 for 43 yards with one TD and one interception.<br /><br /> <iframe height="190" frameborder="0" width="205" align="right" class="poll" src="http://webcenter.polls.aol.com/modular.jsp?template=1386&amp;view=174879&amp;pollId=175167&amp;channel=aol_us_sports&amp;popup=yes"></iframe> Let's keep things in perspective though. As compared to Matt Stafford, Sanchez has a far superior supporting cast in terms of a running game, an offensive line, and receiver depth. Yeah I know, Stafford has that one special receiver in Megatron, who single-handedly makes a case for Stafford, but Sanchez should have a much easier time learning his offense while standing vertically, as opposed to cleaning grass out of his helmet after every play.<br /><br /> As for Sanchez's struggles in the preseason, how much weight do you want to place on a preseason game against the Ravens, one of the toughest defenses in the league? Personally, I see a much faster coming of age from Sanchez than Stafford. Plus, Sanchez <a target="_blank" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/08/26/jets-to-name-mark-sanchez-starting-quarterback/">will likely get the start in Week 1</a>, which makes a big difference in development. All told, I think Stafford has better individual tools and should eventually be the better quarterback in the league, but Sanchez has a better shot at blossoming as a player with some waiver-wire potential down the road in the 2009-2010 season.<br /><br /> <span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Sean Lalley:</span> First off, let's be realistic. Neither one of these guys is going to win you a fantasy title this season. However, both guys are sure-bet keepers in the long run. And you never know, maybe they surprise us all at some point this season. I'm not banking too much on that happening and neither should you, but if my hands are tied and I had to go with one or the other ... I'm going with Stafford.<br /><br />Let me point out the obvious reason why and yup, it's <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/calvin-johnson/8256">Calvin Johnson</a>. The Jets simply have nothing even remotely close on their side. Really, we expect Mark Sanchez as a rookie QB to make something out of the ever-inconsistent <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/jerricho-cotchery/6867">Jerricho Cotchery</a>? I'm not even sure that Sanchez's best WR option even matches <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/bryant-johnson/6353">Bryant Johnson</a> for the Lions. OK, maybe that's a stretch, but Calvin Johnson alone makes quarterbacks look better than they are. He's a pretty big safety valve if you ask me. <br /><br /><a target="_blank" href="http://www.fleaflicker.com/nfl"><img hspace="4" vspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="Fleaflicker" id="vimage_1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/media/2009/08/fleaflicker_186x124.jpg" /></a>We all know that Sanchez is going to get the nod right off the bat, which can be good and bad. Chances are Stafford will have to wait a few games until <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/daunte-culpepper/4659">Daunte Culpepper</a> goes up in flames. So, advantage Sanchez for getting knocked around and initiated to the <a class="injectedLink" href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/">NFL</a> for several weeks, while Stafford can sit, observe and learn the ropes. It's up to you how you like your QB of the future to be schooled. I prefer the watch-and-learn approach -- it has a resounding success rate. <br /><br />Lastly, we fail to even mention that while the Jets have a solid running game, so do the Lions. <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/kevin-smith/8841">Kevin Smith</a> is no slouch and if you don't think he's gonna help take some heat off whomever plays QB and Megatron, think again. Add it all up and if you ask me, Stafford just has more positives (in the long run) on his side -- a dominant WR, a solid running back and a potential star in <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/brandon-pettigrew/9284">Brandon Pettigrew</a> at TE. This debate will rage on with advantage Sanchez for now, but just keep a closer eye on Stafford in keeper leagues. Thank me later.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/2009/08/26/fantasy-football-coin-flip-mark-sanchez-or-matt-stafford/">Fantasy Football Coin Flip: Mark Sanchez or Matt Stafford?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com">Fantasy Football Fanhouse</a> on Wed, 26 Aug 2009 11:30:00 EST .
