Cut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's weekday roundup of the NFL news with fantasy football impact.Sunday was a tough day for quarterbacks, but it wasn't until Monday afternoon that the fallout from the Week 11 injuries started coming to light. Kurt Warner and Ben Roethlisberger received good news and may be able to play in Week 12. The same can't be said for Marc Bulger and Matthew Stafford.
If I gave out a tough-man award each week, I would have no trouble handing the hardware to Stafford for his heroics on Detroit's final game-winning drive. Stafford sprained his shoulder on the next-to-final play on Sunday and John Niyo of The Detroit News says he will likely miss the Lions' Week 12 game on Thanksgiving day.
"He's sore, and I would say if that continues, he'd be unlikely to play," said [Jim] Schwartz, adding that Daunte Culpepper will start if Stafford can't play. "I mean, there's a chance that goes away in the next couple days. Structurally, everything is good. I don't think there's any lasting damage. But he's extremely sore, as you'd expect. We'll see. You don't want to close the door on anybody."
Stafford didn't want to, either.
"I don't know, we'll see," he said during his weekly sponsored radio appearance on WJR, when asked if he'd be able to play. "I'm in a pretty good amount of pain right now. But hopefully it'll start getting better. We'll see."
The St. Louis Rams will be without quarterback Marc Bulger for three to six weeks because of fracture in his knee, at the upper part of the shinbone. An MRI exam Monday disclosed the damage -- technically called a tibial plateau fracture. It occurred Sunday in the 21-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at the Edward Jones Dome.Neither of these guys should have been occupying your QB1 spot on your fantasy football roster. And Stafford's backup, Daunte Culpepper, isn't rosterable even if he's called upon to play. But, Kyle Boller could actually make sense in the short-term for fantasy owners who play in very deep leagues, leagues with two quarterback slots or that allow quarterbacks to be used at FLEX positions. Especially since the Rams play Seattle in Week 12 and Chicago the following week.
Coach Steve Spagnuolo said the injury does not require surgery. "It's just crutches. He'll have to say off it for a while," he explained.
Other Fantasy Football Notes
• If the 49ers were to switch to the shotgun-spread offense, the scheme they showed in the second half of Sunday's game that worked so well, not only would the team benefit, but Michael Crabtree could become a fantasy star. Unfortunately, according to John Crumpacker of The San Francisco Chronicle, Alex Smith isn't thrilled with moving to the new scheme full-time.• Kellen Clemens isn't going to get his chance to jump into the starting role for the New York. Jets. Head coach Rex Ryan is still going to stick with Mark Sanchez, says Gary Myers of the New York Daily News.
• Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network says that Ben Roethlisberger should be able to play this weekend. That's great news, not only for fantasy owners of Roethlisberger, but all of the Steelers receivers as well since Charlie Batch will miss the rest of the regular season after having surgery on his wrist.
• Ray Rice averaged under four yards per carry on Sunday and hasn't rushed for over 100 yards since Week 4. Mike Preston of The Baltimore Sun blames that on poor run blocking by the interior offensive linemen.
• Bruce Gradkowski may not be able to bring home a Raiders victory every week, but Steve Corkran of the Oakland Tribune says that the new quarterback is gelling with his receivers after just one game better than JaMarcus Russell was able to connect during the first 10 weeks of the season.
