Cut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's weekday roundup of the NFL news with fantasy football impact.Cinderella had her glass slipper and some enterprising restaurateur decided many years ago that chicken wings and beer went great together. It doesn't happen often -- when two things come together to create a perfect fit. When it does happen, you should thank your stars.
Chris Chambers is doing just that after he was claimed off waivers Tuesday by the Kansas City Chiefs. It may be a stretch to call this a perfect fit, but there aren't too many teams in the NFL where Chambers could have gone and actually produced. The receiver-needy Chiefs are one of those few places.
Chambers, who had nine receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown this season, was released Monday by the San Diego Chargers. In Kansas City, Chambers is going to get quite a few chances to earn playing time. Bobby Wade and Mark Bradley are stepping stones on the depth chart for Chambers. But, if he finds any gas left in the tank, he may find himself being relevant to the Chiefs.
Just make sure that he does start producing and grabs that No. 2 wide receiver spot on the depth chart before you go out and sign him off of your fantasy waiver wire. Because it's likely that even if he becomes relevant in Kansas City, he won't become fantasy relevant.
Other Fantasy Football Notes
• It looks as if 49ers offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye trusts Alex Smith. According to Matthew Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, the usually run-heavy San Francisco offense threw the ball 36 times on Sunday against the Colts while only running it 18 times. With Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree emerging as reliable threats, Smith could gain fantasy value if the 49ers continue to pass more than they run.
• Having a change-of-pace rusher is all the rave now in the NFL, but a change-of-pace punt return specialist? Rick Maese and Jason Reid of The Washington Post say that Santana Moss will sometimes join DeAngelo Hall to return punts. Moss has 453 yards receiving this year with two touchdowns. If you have him on your roster already and you play in a league that awards return points, you just received an early holiday gift.
• The Buffalo Bills are enjoying their bye week and that extra time may be just what Trent Edwards needs. Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News cites a team source in Buffalo who says that when they do get back onto the field in Week 10, they'll have Edwards back at quarterback. This news carries the caveat that Edwards doesn't have any setbacks, but it's still good news for those of you with Edwards on your bench.
• According to Robert Lee of The Providence Journal, Sam Aiken and Brandon Tate will share No. 3 wide receiver duties this week for New England as they play Miami. It's hard to imagine a Patriots receiver not being fantasy relevant, but as a tandem, neither of these two is worth owning.
• We all know that Maurice Jones-Drew can get very vocal when he doesn't get the ball. To keep this from happening, Vito Stellino of The Florida Times-Union says that David Garrard has been told not to audible out of run plays designed for Jones-Drew -- at least not all of the time.
