Fantasy Football Week 8 Rankings: WR

Miles AustinWhere do breakout receivers like Mike Sims-Walker, Miles Austin and Hakeem Nicks rank in this week's edition?

Going by Austin's last two games, he should be at the top, but it's not a stretch to think his 150-yard, two-TD per game stretch will come to an end this week. Sooner or later, Nicks will have a game where he doesn't catch a long TD; it would have come in Week 7 if not for a lucky bounce off Steve Smith's hands.

I have nothing bad to say about Sims-Walker, except that he'd better make curfew this week!

• Yes, I'm that crazy about our boy MSW. Words can't describe how bad the Titans are against the pass, and if you've forgotten while they've been on a bye, take a look at Tom Brady's second quarter against them in Week 6. Sims-Walker has emerged as the No. 1 option in the passing game, which should mean big things for him this Sunday. You absolutely have to start him this week, no questions asked.

• Austin checks in at No. 7, which will probably end up being too high for the guy, as a return to Earth should be expected. But how can you not play him this week? If you have safer options, I'd play them and take the points, as points are generally at a premium during a six-team bye. If you're looking for the possibility of an explosive line though, there's no one better right now.

• I'm still sticking to my guns and listing Steve Smith over Nicks -- Smith received more targets last week and was the intended target on Nicks' touchdown. The week that Nicks finally cools off, Smith should have a monster game. Both have difficult matchups in Philadelphia, but with so many teams off, the rankings take a turn for the worse pretty quickly, so you'll have to ignore the matchups in this case and hope for the best.

• I'm not confident in the health of Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Bernard Berrian, and a few others, which leads to a lower-than-usual ranking for the banged-up stars. Well, in Berrian's case the low ranking is probably more than injury, as he's clearly been bypassed in fantasy usefulness by Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin. Although to be honest, you'd probably expect to see guys named Sidney and Percy turning heads in your fantasy polo league, not in fantasy football.

• Crabtree-mania might be in full force in your league, but he's not a recommended option against the Colts. Right tackle Tony Pashos has been lost for the season, so good luck keeping upright against Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis, Alex Smith! If you're hurting for talent and have to start Crabtree, you should do so reluctantly. I don't think you get bonus points for reluctance, but you never know.
