Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: Larry Johnson Tweets Himself Out of Job?

Larry JohnsonAfter a 37-7 drubbing of his Chiefs on Sunday, running back Larry Johnson spent post-game energy focused on his Twitter stream instead of reflecting on the 1-6 start to the season in Kansas City. He called out head coach Todd Haley in a way most employees don't recover from when speaking poorly of their employers.
"My father played for the coach from "rememeber the titans". Our coach played golf. My father played for redskins briefley. Our coach. Nuthn"
Johnson is obviously upset at how the Chiefs are playing. He may even be upset at the fact that he's not getting enough touches. But, we won't know what's bothering Johnson because not only did he delete his controversial tweets, he also protected his Twitter stream from being viewed unless Johnson gives explicit permission. According to Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star, he's also not happy with the media asking about his tweets.
LJ was apparently not in the mood to discuss his tweets. "Get your ... (tail) out of here," he whispered after reporters were told to leave.

It's not known yet how Haley and the Chiefs will handle this situation. But, one thing is for sure -- on limited carries thus far, Jamaal Charles has been a more effective ball-carrier and is faster and more athletic than Johnson. If Johnson's 2.7 yards per carry average hadn't already warranted carries to be taken away and given to Charles (who is averaging 5.0 yards per carry), this Twitter diatribe might hasten the move.

Whether Johnson gets fined, suspended or even loses his roster spot completely, Charles becomes a more valuable fantasy option from this point forward. He's owned in only 24 percent of Fleaflicker leagues, so signing him shouldn't be a problem. Remember that Kansas City is moving into a bye week, so signing Charles won't pay dividends until Week 9.

Other Fantasy Football Notes
• Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat said that 49ers head coach Mike Singletary suggested to offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye that the 49ers make a change at quarterback. It's not known yet if Alex Smith will take over from Shaun Hill, but the determination should come soon. Update: Singletary has officially named Alex Smith the 49ers' starting quarterback.

• I'm not sure that a missed field goal and a missed extra point are grounds for canning John Carney, but Mike Triplett of the Times-Picayune says that Carney is rather upset about his kicking and I've been hearing whispers all morning that it could be time to activate Garrett Hartley from the practice squad. Whoever kicks for New Orleans will be a top-ten fantasy kicker.Knox Bardeen

• Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald said that Jake Delhomme is in danger of losing his job after throwing three more interceptions against Buffalo on Sunday.

• The Tampa Bay coaching staff has a while to think about this as they are entering their bye week, but Martin Fennelly of The Tampa Tribune says that the time is now to make Josh Freeman the Buccaneers starting quarterback.

• It's not just Wes Welker and Randy Moss who are of extreme fantasy value in the New England offense, anyone who's listed as the No. 3 receiver should perform well too. According to Christopher L. Gasper of The Boston Globe, Sam Aiken and Brandon Tate both have a shot at becoming that guy.

Buffalo Bills head coach Dick Jauron has already named his starter for Week 8, and it's not Trent Edwards. Ryan Fitzpatrick will start against Houston and Allen Wilson of The Buffalo News says that this is great news for Lee Evans, who has developed a great chemistry with Fitzpatrick.

JaMarcus Russell was jerked out of the game on Sunday in the second quarter, but Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle says that he'll keep his job as the Raiders starting quarterback.

• Wes Welker has 20 catches over the past two weeks for a combined 257 yards and three touchdowns. Christopher L. Gasper of The Boston Globe says that he still may not be 100-percent healthy. What's going to happen to his numbers when Welker is completely back?

• Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News says that Leon Washington's broken leg required emergency surgery and not only is his season done, but his career may be in jeopardy. If you missed out on Shonn Greene, it's absolutely time to run out and sign someone like Derrick Ward, who's owned in 48 percent of Fleaflicker leagues, or Jamaal Charles, who was mentioned above. If you play in a point-per-reception league you can also look at a guy like Jerome Harrison, who is owned in only 16 percent of leagues.
