Cut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's weekday roundup of the NFL news with fantasy football impact.Since there appears to be little to nothing of real fantasy interest today, we'll just pick on T.O. with our lead in today. Halloween is just around the corner, so let's call attention to two of the most bizarre stories of 2009 to date: 1) We haven't heard a peep out of Terrell Owens and 2) Terrell Owens averages just two and half catches per game.
In even stranger news, according to Rotoworld via the Bills' Web site, coach Dick Jauron gave Terrell Owens the day off on Friday. Considering Owens' uncharacteristically poor performance thus far this season, this does not seem to be the most logical of times for Owens to be missing practice. Who knows, maybe coach Jauron thinks T.O. needs a good day out on the town with Ferris and Sloane in the old man's Ferrari to get his season back on track.
As reported in USA Today, Owens remains calm and collected about his diminished role, attributing the lack of targets more to coverages than game plan, so this might be a good time to buy low on T.O. After all, defenses will likely start taking him for granted if the low production continues. Look for the big guy to break out one of these days as a physical receiver like T.O. doesn't just disappear overnight.
Other Fantasy Football Notes
• With regard to the Colts' wide receiver situation, the Associated Press reports that Anthony Gonzalez feels good and should return to practice next week. That comes as no big surprise, but what does is that it looks as though Wayne, Gonzalez and Collie will get the starting jobs with "it" boy Pierre Garcon likely dropping out of the starting lineup.
• Michael Hurcomb with CBS Fantasy News provides sit 'em or start 'em advice for college fantasy football. Raise your hand if you even knew such a thing existed. I actually gave it shot last season with a strictly Big Ten league, but nobody in the league paid any attention and it flopped completely. Let us know if if anyone actually plays in a quality college league. I'd be down to join one next season (or even mid-season if such a thing exists).
• Always fans of a good comparison, we point you to Eric Huber from On Milwaukee who celebrates the release of Transformers 2 on DVD this week with fantasy heroes and villains in the form of Tranformers characters. I like DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart as Mudflap and Skids.
• The folks at Lucky Lester include some nice tables of each writer's top five picks at each position towards the bottom of their weekly Fantasy Focus, which provide a helpful cross-check of ideas. For example, I snagged the Colts defense off wires this week for a spot start, who make all four of their top fives this week. Gives a nice little sigh of relief.• Finally, the St. Louis Dispatch reports that Donnie Avery practiced full-speed today and should be back this week for some action. This news comes as a bit of a surprise as the hip injury seemed more serious given he left the game after just one catch. Hence, if you are shallow at receiver, a lot of folks dumped Avery early in the week, so he should be available on some waiver wires.
