Need a last-minute fill-in for this week? 4th and 26 is here to throw you a couple deep sleepers, guys available in at least 90% of Fleaflicker leagues that could give your fantasy football team a big boost.I've got to tell you, I must have Wes Welker in virtually every fantasy football league I play in this year. When news broke during our Sunday Tailgate chat (which we do every Sunday starting at 10:30 AM ET), I had many rosters that needed some last second altering. If you're in a deep league (one of those leagues I needed a fill-in was a 16-teamer), you might have to go scraping the bottom of the FA barrel at the last second. Here are some guys that might help.
Seneca Wallace, QB, Seahawks. Some might think the Seneca Wallace Era is full of doom and gloom, but he was actually quite successful in the second half of last season. After getting his first game back from injury out of the way, Wallace went on to throw eight TDs and no picks in his next six games before finishing the season with a two-pick, two-TD day. Standard leagues can pass, but you guys in a two-QB league should take notice, as should the teams with two injured QBs on roster.
Lynell Hamilton, RB, Saints. I'm not sure he's a great play, considering he could wind up with anywhere between two and 20 carries today, but if you're desperate for a flex back, he's not a bad option. Hamilton received some practice time with the first team during the week, indicating that coach Sean Payton probably has plans to use him during the game. If you're starting him, I'll pray that he gets double-digit carries for you.
Jerome Harrison, RB, Browns. I suggested him last week as well, but he's sure to see a healthy chunk of carries this week with Jamal Lewis sidelined. If rookie James Davis shoots out of the gate and recaptures the magic he had in preseason, we might not see much of Harrison in this game. But like Hamilton, he's a solid option if you're desperate for a plug-in flex player inWeek 3.
Julian Edelman, WR, Patriots. He came up with a big game in Week 2 filling in for Wes Welker, catching eight balls for 98 yards while receiving a whopping 16 targets, and with Welker's health still an issue, Edelman might get the chance to duplicate his playing time from last week. That would be a big deal to fantasy owners, as the Patriots are a team that likes to throw a bunch of passes. If you had Tom Brady under center, you'd do the same.
James Jones, WR, Packers. This is the perfect storm for James Jones in Week 3: Greg Jennings is banged up, the Packers are playing a team with next-to-no depth in the secondary, and Jones is starting to pull away as the team's No. 3 WR. Deep leaguers scurrying to find a replacement for an injured wideout should give Jones a shot, as he could have a long TD up his sleeve against the Rams.
