We are only two weeks into the season, but if you're sitting at 0-2 in any of your fantasy leagues, it might be time to make a few minor roster tweaks. No, it's certainly not a time to panic, but that sense of desperation must be setting in for you. Relax, we're in this together. The best way to get back on the right track (aside from pulling off a lopsided trade) is to trim the fat so to speak. So, let's talk about who is floating at the mediocrity level and if they can redeem themselves or if you should spare yourself the wait. That's right, it's the weekly round of "Sink or Swim" where I get to shed the pessimistic, or in some cases, optimistic perspective on the fantasy underachievers. Let's look no further than the hit-or-miss/boom-or-bust Dallas Cowboys wide receivers and give them a warm round of applause, because today they are on the hot seat.
Do you keep 'em or cut 'em? Let dig a little deeper first.
Ol' Roy, Ol' Roy, where have you gone? Won't you come out to play? I can hear those screams of "I told you so" from many a fantasy pundit. Let's face it, the outlook on Roy Williams heading into this season was pretty much 50/50. Some believed with Terrell Owens out of the picture Roy would flourish with Tony Romo and the lack of internal pressure.
Meanwhile, many others argued his flaws and inconsistencies would further prove his non-worthiness to be deemed a No. 1 wide receiver in this league or for fantasy use. It's only been a couple weeks, but the latter opinion seems to be justified. Don't let that first game against Tampa Bay fool you, Roy Williams is not going to do you much good this season.
At this point let's just call it like it is, he's an inconsistent option who can give you a few nice games here and there, but live as a ghost in others. He has clearly not gained the trust of Romo and for good measure. Arguably much of Romo's struggles can be attributed to the lack of game-changing ability from their prized acquisition of Williams. Is it too early to jump ship? Probably so, but unless things change in a hurry you're bound to be disappointed.
As for Patrick Crayton and Miles Austin, it's quite hard to gauge where they stand. Much like Roy Williams they each had a somewhat "breakout" game in Week 1. Again though, the argument can be made about the situation and circumstances. You're certainly not going to shoot yourself in the foot by letting either Crayton or Austin hit the waiver wire. Chances are both of these guys will find waivers as a revolving door this season. It's hard to imagine that somebody won't won't break out as the main option in Dallas, but with Romo struggling it's quite possible that's not gonna happen anytime soon. The Cowboys seem focused and most successful in using their running game, plus we all know Jason Witten will always be the go-to guy when passing is a must.
You can't just dump Williams, but you can seek to move him ASAP. That's if anyone wants him. Perhaps package him with someone else of interest and hope for the best. As for Austin, I'd add him to the watch list and hope he can cash in on potential. However, with Crayton we've been down this road before ... just let him
go already.
