I'm going to try. I really am. Every year, some unknown wide receiver leaps from obscurity to being the waiver-wire darling of the fantasy football season. In a minute, I'm going to attempt to rank so many receivers that he won't slip through the cracks. Inevitably, he will slip through the cracks. So just for fun, after the rankings and after the commentary, I'll throw a few names against the wall. After the weekend, we'll see if any stuck.Having trouble filling out your lineup in Week 1? Can't decide on a WR3 or a flex option? Well, here are some down-and-dirty rankings for your perusal. Use them as a guide, and if all goes well, you'll be 1-0 in a few

• Quite a long list, right? In the future I'll make them smaller, as once we know a bit more about each offense, it'll be easier to determine which obscure free-agent wide receivers might have value in a given week.
• Brandon Marshall looks like he's ready to go for Week 1 and he makes for a good start against Cincinnati. Since teammate Eddie Royal has been working hard in practice, he's a much better play though.
• I wouldn't depend on Terrell Owens this week unless you have no other options. I'd rather start Derrick Mason, who should be a PPR stud this week and the entire year. Joe Flacco is due for improvement this year, and you know Mason wants to go out with a bang.
• Love Robert Meachem as a no-name home run pick this week. I'm not sure, but I think you or I might do a serviceable job against a Detroit nickelback. With Drew Brees as our QB, I'm confident one of us could haul in a TD pass. What do you think Meachem, who could make a leap in his third year, will do?
• Kevin Walter belongs on your bench this week, as does Devin Hester and Ted Ginn. Let's give the Bears offense a week to determine how Jay Cutler spreads the targets around.
• Do you start five wide receivers in your league? Well, Bryant Johnson of the Lions has an easy matchup, though with a rookie at QB I wouldn't expect anything huge. He could collect 60 yards and a score, if the chips fall correctly.
• As promised, here are a few guys that didn't make the cut, but might come out of nowhere to post a huge week in Week 1: Johnnie Lee Higgins, OAK; Kelley Washington, BAL; Austin Collie, IND; Mike Sims-Walker, JAC.
