It's been over a month since we last posted positional fantasy football rankings, so it's time to run our second version. Plus, we added some staff. This is now an average ranking from eight Fantasy FanHouse writers. To view the early version of our quarterback rankings, click here. Since we last checked in, there have been a few difference in the quarterback rankings. Not only have OTAs taken place, but we've also had some changes of heart and done a lot more studying -- plus the aforementioned FanHouse staff additions. One thing that didn't change? The top three ... Drew Brees, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning remain intact.
| Player |
Team |
| 1. Drew Brees |
Saints |
| No movement from last ranks. He was the near-unanimous choice atop the perch here. The only substantive difference from last season is he has the chance to get a full season of Reggie Bush and Marques Colston, plus, we know that Lance Moore is legit. |
|
| 2. Tom Brady |
Patriots |
| He's back. He still has Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Plus, he's probably motivated to show everyone the knee injury didn't ruin him. |
|
| 3. Peyton Manning |
Colts |
| At this point in his career, he's ranked this highly based upon his consistency more than the ability to go for an insane total on a given week. |
|
| 4. Aaron Rodgers |
Packers |
| As we get closer to the season, the Ryan Grant love-fest grows -- and a running game will only help Rodgers thrive. |
|
| 5. Kurt Warner |
Cardinals |
| It's a deep upper-tier of quarterbacks when you can get Warner fifth. The differences between last year are the Cards should be a better running team, but they have lost their offensive coordinator. |
|
| 6. Philip Rivers |
Chargers |
| Again, crowded elite tier. Rivers is coming off what looked like a career year, but Rivers is only 27 and there's no reason to expect a falloff. |
|
| 7. Donovan McNabb |
Eagles |
| He'll be bringing along Jeremy Maclin and continuing the development of DeSean Jackson this season. And you know Philly is going to throw the ball. |
|
| 8. Matt Schaub |
Texans |
| He needs to take better care of the ball and remain healthy. If that happens, watch out. Schaub averaged 277 yards passing per game last season and tossed 15 touchdowns in 11 games. This will be his third year in Gary Kubiak's system and he will thrive. | |
| 9. Matt Ryan |
Falcons |
| They were just feeling their way around at the beginning of last season. Now they have added Tony Gonzalez and Ryan has confidence and even a swagger. | |
| 10. Jay Cutler |
Bears |
| I'm thinking he's going to end up having nice value on draft day, due to the opposite effect of what I described in "Death of a Sleeper." People are flocking to say Cutler's going to be a bust. | |
| 11. Carson Palmer |
Bengals |
| Another possibly solid value pick, depending upon where he falls in your draft. We know he has the capability to be a QB1, but he's coming off an injury-riddled campaign. |
|
| 12. Tony Romo |
Cowboys |
| My biggest worry would be that it's possible the Cowboys shift their offensive strategy and focus more on the run. Losing T.O. will certainly hurt the passing game, too. |
|
| 13. Matt Hasselbeck |
Seahawks |
| He's not exciting, but can easily get the job done. After last season, you can get him as a QB2. Talk about upside. He threw for 3,966 yards and 28 TDs in 2007. |
|
| 14. Ben Roethlisberger |
Steelers |
| Big Ben wins games. If he has to throw to win, he will. If not, he won't. That means he's a spot-starter at best in fantasy. |
|
| 15. Eli Manning |
Giants |
| Start with Eli as a QB2, so you can watch how he works with the inexperienced receivers early in the season when he's on your bench. It's likely the Giants rely heavily upon the run, though, so Eli's name carries more weight than fantasy prowess. |
|
| 16. Trent Edwards |
Bills |
| As we get closer to the season, Edwards' stock continues to fall. He's down to 20th in ADP for quarterbacks. He hasn't done anything to earn the dip, either. I guess the luster of adding Terrell Owens is wearing off before camp even starts? Edwards could end up being a nice late-round grab. | |
| 17. Matt Cassel |
Chiefs |
| A fresh start in Kansas City with a new coaching staff. He'll enjoy Dwayne Bowe, but will need the running game to keep pressure off of him. | |
| 18. Jason Campbell |
Redskins |
| Efforts to convince my colleagues to move him up the rankings have thus far proved fruitless. I think he's easily top-15. I guess I'll have to settle for stealing him in our FanHouse fantasy league (as a backup to Schaub? I'd love that duo). |
|
| 19. Joe Flacco |
Ravens |
| Year two in Cam Cameron's offense will prove a success for Flacco, but the Ravens are still running-and-defense oriented. Solid QB2 in all formats. | |
| 20. David Garrard |
Jaguars |
| The Jags like their improved receiving corps and offensive line. MJD owns the offense, but he gains lots of yards through the air as well. Garrard isn't a sexy name, but he can get the job done as a spot-starter in fantasy. |
|
21. Shaun Hill, 49ers
22. Kyle Orton, Broncos
23. Jake Delhomme, Panthers
24. Brett Favre, Vikings (not yet, but he will sign with them soon)
25. Brady Quinn, Browns
26. Marc Bulger, Rams
27. Chad Pennington, Dolphins
28. JaMarcus Russell, Raiders
29. Kerry Collins, Titans
30. Daunte Culpepper, Lions
31. Mark Sanchez, Jets
32. Byron Leftwich, Buccaneers
33. Jeff Garcia, Raiders
34. Derek Anderson, Browns
35. Sage Rosenfels, Vikings
36. Matthew Stafford, Lions
37. Josh Freeman, Buccaneers
38. Kellen Clemens, Jets
39. Seneca Wallace, Seahawks
40. Chris Simms, Broncos
41. Chad Henne, Dolphins
42. Tarvaris Jackson, Vikings
43. Luke McCown, Buccaneers
44. Matt Leinart, Cardinals
45. Rex Grossman, Texans

hey Snyder,
When is a good time of the year to hold our draft?? ...When is the fantasy fanhouse league holding your draft?

We actually haven't set a date yet (which reminds me that I need to email everyone in the group, thanks).
I think the ideal time is Labor Day weekend. All the camp battles have been decided and all the preseason injuries have already occurred. This leaves less up to dumb luck and more up to skill in drafting.
Plus, in my hometown leagues, we can all gather in person and have a cookout either before or after the draft.
If you can't do it then -- for the same reasons -- the closer to the start of the NFL season, the better.

What in the hell???
Rodgers ranked higher than Warner, Rivers, or McNabb???
Rivers was practically the second best option at qb last year, will continue to be so this year unless Gates has a leg amputated, and Warner has the two best recievers in the game. McNabb did just fine with a no name core, and now adds yet another fleety receiver to the mix, the underrated Maclin, wow...this is all of course based on Grant performing better than Samkon freaking Gado, a one year hit. Nice.
Im completely stunned, lol. Im with other dude, i totally want in on some of the fanhouse fantasy bid.

Rodgers was third in QB points last season behind Brees and Cutler.
I personally had him sixth in these rankings, and the averages were all incredibly tight from 4-7, but it's not as ridiculous as you make it sound to have him end up 4th.

Oh, im not saying the guy isnt worth dust Sir Matt, just saying if the other two were on the board, id seriously take them over a guy with a fragile frame and a running game/offensive line that likes to show up for half of the season. A gajillion quality receivers or not,and compared to Rivers, who did that without Chambers for weeks on end, without L.T. and his pass catching abilites shining. Itll be hard to imagine Rodgers being better than that.
A good QB1 if the normally injury free top tier QBs are gone, a top five qb mostly because this crop is pretty thin, id leave it at that.
Cutler should rank higher, because i think he made Eddie Royal, not the other way around, even without Marshall this guy still chucks it, hell do it with no namers in Chitown, please believe.
IF Hasselback and Palmer both make it back all the way from injuries last year, would you take Rodgers over them? Just curious.
Oh yeah, best time to draft is during next to last week of pre-season, no doubt. Vick in 02, all im saying...

Yes, I'd still take Rodgers, but I think those two you mention are very underrated.
In fact, I'd argue the opposite to what you said about it being a thin crop. QB is incredibly deep. I'm planning on loading up on RBs and WRs early on and then grabbing a QB1 like Schaub/Hasselbeck/Palmer and QB2 like Cassel/Campbell. That will be plenty when teamed with my beast-like RBs/WRs.
And what's with the "Sir Matt?" Did I get knighted?

Haha, sure, dubbed the knight of fantasy foozeball-land.
Its not entirely deep in a ten-twelve team league, esp if one or more go down with the annual injury bug. Its deep in the sense of capable qb's, but not for top flighters. The plateau starts to dive after Hasselback who i personally find higher than Romo given the +T.J -T.O. factor. A bunch of will they show up? types, really. A rb or wr can have a bad week because you normally have another rb plus the rb/wr combo slot, but having a god awful week from a up and down qb can KILL you, i think. I only see like seven or eight truly consistent guys, and again, thats barring injury bugs. Not so deep for a 12 team league.

I agree, Qb's are deep and I think I will go RB/WR/RB/TE/QB/TE. Not sold on Flacco,Ryan,Brady or Warner and each will command a hefty price. Culpepper might just be a sleeper here considering Mr. runoutofthebackoftheendzone actually put up respectable numbers (hey if your always behind your always throwing).
