This weekend, future Hall-of-Famer (and Hall of Fame cry-baby) Terrell Owens found a new home. He's going to play for the Buffalo Bills in 2009. We all know he's capable of great things on the field and tons of drama off. Real football-wise, it's hard to see this ending well. This punk hated Jeff Garcia and Donovan McNabb. How's he going to feel about Trent Edwards' inability to get him the ball in the high winds and sub-zero temperatures this coming December? Still, you can't discount the ability of T.O. to find the end-zone. He does it better than any other receiver.
Let's examine the fallout, player by player.
Stock Rises
Trent Edwards - This can't hurt him. It's just not possible. Locker room problems could surface, but we're talking purely fantasy. Getting to throw to T.O. and Lee Evans should make Edwards a quality fantasy passer. For now, he's a QB2, but there's potential to become a lower-tier QB1 in large leagues.
Marshawn Lynch - We're taking a leap of faith that he'll make it to the regular season as a free citizen. If he does, he's going to have many more running lanes than he did toward the end of last season. Defenses began to overly key on Beast-Mode late in the season, and he was met with eight man fronts with consistency. Adding T.O. to the fray will force opposition to pay more attention to the passing attack.
Stock Falls
Lee Evans - In order to keep the diva happy, the Bills will have to feed T.O. with consistency, and that takes away several of Evans' looks per game. The good news is you won't be disappointed when expecting Evans to finally come through as a consistent WR1. We now know he's definitely not going to be one.
James Hardy - The second-year receiver will now fall to third on the depth chart. He'll likely get some looks from the slot in passing situations, and he's a good second goal-line target (behind T.O.) due to his height. That said, he would have been a nice breakout candidate without Owens in camp. No more, as he won't get nearly enough touches to warrant ownership in most leagues.
T.O. - Yeah, he's departing a prolific offense for the Edwards-led Bills. He'll encounter terrible passing conditions for his last two or three home games as well, which means he has the chance to murder your team in the fantasy playoffs. With lots of company emerging as elite receiving options, I don't like T.O. in the top 10 at his position.
